Forget Blues. Next Monday night sees the return of hostilities with ‘The Old Enemy’. Yes, the Villa haters from Handsworth are our next opponents and if any Villa supporters still don’t see this rivalry as massive, I would question their validity to be called Villans.
For a start, the two clubs are only 4 miles apart and both clubs lie within 4 miles of the city centre. Both clubs were founder members of the Football League and that makes this not only the oldest derby in English football, but by default the world’s oldest local derby. You won’t hear that fact being relayed by Sky, the BBC or anyone else, as incredibly, this derby is little known outside of this region.
Historically, the two clubs have been closest in terms of achievement and the intense rivalry goes back to Victorian times and continued until modern times. In fact, the ‘Black Country derby’ was invented and hyped to high heaven by the Express & Star, somewhat understandably so, as Albion are the only focus for Wolves (the local club of the E & S). This was seized upon and magnified by Sky over the years. Even so, neither club actually lies in the Black Country and this state of affairs has only occurred over the last 20-25 years. Younger Villa fans should know the history of the club and that includes the rivalry with Albion. I fear that most younger fans are ignorant of this and that has to change.
OK, have the banter and rivalry with Blues aswell, but know that this is massive. This matters. Albion is at least as big, if not bigger. Let’s go and smash them out of sight and then dance in front of the Villa hating stripy bunch.
Know your history! Know your geography! Know your enemy!
Albion match is bigger than Blues

Nice one Bumble
I am not sure what all the fuss is about, Baggies is a Derby but our real derby for whatever reason is Blouse.
Baggies are elated that temporarily they may appear top team in West Midlands let them have their fun.
Tottenham's underachievers should get another massive setback Sunday so at least we can enjoy that first

For Baggies fans see spurs fans, both forever in the shadow of their A grade rivals.

villa are a bit like arsenal in as much as that they never win anything
at least arsenal compete at the top end though, rather than entertain relegation scraps every season like "massive" villa

If fair play was to apply at least we are probably going the right way
In this corrupt society we live in it won't so we have to live with it.
Villa are going to play younger players good luck to them
Some of them are from abroad but we have a great youth set up.
If English youth were introduced into the premiership gradually we would not have such a poor National side.
Wont happen till the moneee bubble bursts

They've managed to cling to Premiership football for the last 2 seasons though so at least they've had a stay of execution.
Question is, how long will it last until they join the giants of West Midlands football like Walsall, Wolves and Coventry?
