Politics Allowed In Sport!

So, in a week in which all UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League fixtures paid official UEFA pre-match tributes to Nelson Mandela, Celtic have been fined because fans had 2 politically motivated banners.

Martina Navratilova, amonst others, this week spoke about how sports and politics are linked and that's okay, according to her, apparently. The liberal media cheered her. She was opposing the Winter Olympics in Russia next year due to some sort of gay rights issue.

So basically it seems politics is allowed in sport but only if you're into gay rights or Nelson Mandela and not Bobby Sands or...somewhat laughably given what a very historical character he is (12th/13th century!?)...William Wallace!!!

I don't think many parliaments around the world held a minutes silence for Billy Wright or thousands around the world marched in solidarity with him. To attempt to equate the two of them is nonsense

Thats the thing though, one politician of a different opinion allowed another elected politician die. All down to opinions

He wasn't a GP DC

Not many politicians are willing to die for their beliefs. Too many just in it for the £££££

Bluebell

In wartime it's not academics you need.

And it was a pretty dirty war that covers nobody in glory.

For right or wrong, 10, intelligent able bodied men starved themselves to death for what they believed in. Moving past the why they were in prison, to kill yourself in such a way, just to make a point to a ruler that just wouldn't listen to a section of society?

Should that not be remembered@?

Worse thing about the Troubles was the sectarian splitting of the working class. Brits are good at the old divide and rule.
