Game(s) of the generation

Now that the new consoles are finally out and the age of the PS3/360 is over, what was everyone's game of the generation for them?

For me personally it's between Skyrim and GTAV

Other potential ones based off reviews/fan responses etc

Red Dead Redemption
Uncharted 2/3
The Last of Us
Bioshock
Fallout 3
Mass Effect series
Portal 2
Batman: Arkham City
GTAIV (I personally wouldn't have that anywhere near the top, but it smashed the reviews & I know many people still consider it their best/favourite game of all time)

Call of Duty 4. Now I know a lot of people wouldn't hold a CoD anywhere near the top, but you have to remember that on the ps2/original xbox, online multiplayer was almost nonexistent. It took off on the ps3/360 and is now one of the biggest features in the gaming world. CoD4 for me was the defining FPS on consoles that set the standard for shooter games, and opened the door to what is probably the biggest genre in gaming - multiplayer first person shooters.

Would also add Demon's Souls/Dark Souls because of the big following and recognition they've received.

Any 360 exclusives people think should be up there too? (I don't own a 360)

And feel free to add others if you believe they deserve a shout.

How you can do a full generational list and fail to mention any Zelda game, particularly Ocarina of Time is beyond me.

Ocarina of Time was THE defining game of a generation and in many ways changed the history of gaming. Certainly my view of games entirely changed on that release and most games developers around the late 20s early 30s will absolutely pinpoint that game as the game that hooked them on gaming.

Is that aimed at the article or a comment? Because the article is about ps3/360 games. I don't disagree with your comments though.

Fair enough, I think if someone was to do a full list of every generation's best games, it would be huge, you can't limit it to a couple games for each console & a lot of it will be down to opinion and personal preference too. Although some games are almost universally accepted as being brilliant.

Yeh my bad Zelda is worth a shout, but i world say Golden Eye was more defining on the N64. But as someone else saíd this is down to preference.......

However
