I am not saying we don't have the players to play 4-4-2, because we certainly do. However, if Tim Sherwood does stick to 4-4-2 as most expect, it means one less midfield position for our abundance of midfielders to compete for.
Players that can play, or may be considered to play in CM:
Sandro
Paulinho
Dembele
Capoue
Holtby
Sigurdsson
Eriksen
Seven players competing for two positions? I won't include the likes of Bentaleb yet, because even though he was good yesterday, we had a lot of absentees in that position. I assume that Sigurdsson and Eriksen will be considered to play on the wings, but we already have the below players competing for these two positions:
Lennon
Townsend
Chadli
Lamela
It will be interesting to see who Sherwood favours in midfield, playing a 4-4-2. Competition will be very fierce there, and I suspect at least one or two of them will become unhappy in the near future. Maybe one or two will be gone in January?
Thoughts?
Squad Too Unbalanced for 4-4-2?

Yep, let's sell a player who came in from a foreign league and has only been at the club for what, four/five months? That makes a lot of sense.
One of the reasons Newcastle are getting progressively better as the season goes on is because the guys they signed in January have now adapted to the demands of the league and are starting to show their true level. At Arsenal, Olivier Giroud has been much more effective this season than he was last season.
You can't expect players to come in from elsewhere and make an immediate impact on the league. Some do, but most don't, and the lack of patience some people are showing with our summer signings is bordering on ridiculous.

If Sherwood is as good a manager as he thinks he is, he better have more than just 4-4-2 in his locker. Yes, we won on sunday but that game could easily have gone the other way and we'd be moaning about how open we looked. Hopefully it was just part of his i'm not AVB audition to Levy and he'll be getting the team balanced (something AVB failed to do).
On Paulinho, Brazil's first choice midfielder, arguably one of the most important players in their squad. Not worried about him at all. Another scapegoat for recent games.
