I am extremely happy that Brendan Rodgers has gone on to critisise the performance of Lee Mason and his linesmen yesterday. If I have had one qualm about BR it is that he fails to critisise the officials when they deserve it. Last season when Michael Oliver had a shocker he referred to him as an "outstanding young referee" and I sat there thinking I don't give a shít Brendan back your players up for god sake! Even after the merseyside derby this season Dowd who gave a lot of decisions in Everton's favour was not critisised which surprised me.
Now don't get me wrong, I understand ref's have an extremely hard job but when you have decisions like yesterday's offside which might easily be the worst in premier league history, they deserve the stick. No employee should be immune to critisicm when a poor error is made and that is why I am very satisfied with what Rodgers said last night. My opinion of him has changed slightly and this is exactly what I wanted to see.
Now for all you opposition fans claiming oh look he's having a rant as we deserved to lose, I think even the neutral will tell you that we deserved atleast a point. Shame we couldn't take our chances and if Mason had the balls to penalise we would have ended up with all three. Also BR is not here to appease all you opposition fans who claim the referee should be respected at all times..do one. Neither is he there to appease the god dam FA who are nothing short of a laughing stock. I'm sure he doesn't give a dam about any fine he may get as the performance from Mason and that joke lino definitely warranted those comments.
Well done BR
Extremely Happy

The thing is, the backing your players at all costs, even when you're in the wrong can work if you're winning title after title as everybody sides with you, the media etc. However if you're not doing that, you have to be fair, otherwise you'll get on the wrong side of everybody.

TOOR they weren't in the wrong yesterday though. He's never done it when they were poor like at Oldham and for the most part he has been very honest imo

Please filter me again.
Anyone that can call another stupid when he makes such a basic howler as not knowing the score does not deserve my company.

you may have claimed all 3 points, if Sterling had converted an open goal you would have claimed all 3 points
As for all this crap about the manager going public about poor reffing decisions its pathetic (no matter who the manager is). i'm assuming by using your own logic that you therefore expect your manager to do likewise when the poor decisions benefit you as well?
---
Which is what I said when i stated we should have taken our chances! Your trying to disprove my point while proving it yourself..hmm
Well yes you'd just expect the manager to say we were fortunate with decisions today, no hiding from it after all. And ofcourse we wouldn't have been complaining had the decision gone for us..City fans would have and they would have been fully justified to
Oh and Hector as for you, I feel nobody deserves your company

I rate Mason as a referee. OK, yesterday's decision by his linesman was shocking, but the ref, in most cases but not every, goes with his linesman. BR for me went too far in his criticism, all he had to do was point people towards the un refutable evidence that the ref and his linesman got it wrong, thereby retaining the moral high ground (and saving himself a few bob in fines from the F All). For Brendan to make such public statements, he will soon find himself getting the same name as SAF, and that would never do. I mean, even as a Jock, there are limits.

Jolly Roger
I don't normally comment on here because most posters aren't worth it!! But you make valid points.
However I disagree, and agree with the OP.
Rodgers, as should all management in any role, defended his team. He can control the team to a certain extent, and I'm pretty sure he will have spoken (at the very least) to Sterling about his finishing yesterday.
However he can't control the actions of the match officials, and he can't ask the ref to look at the replays and correct his mistake, therefore I think he was 100% correct in coming out with these issues. I think he should be commended for not immediately slating the ref on Sky after the game. He was not going to offer a cheap soundbite for their benefit.
Yes oppo fans might not like it, hell even neutral fans might not like it, but I commend him for it and look may it continue (where appropriate obviously)

We didn't lose yesterday because of officials.
This doesn't change the fact that the officials were pitiful though. Missing several penalties and fouls, the worst offside decision of the season, and random yellow cards for not a lot.
This was against both teams. It was just a terrible display of officiating.
We will never know if Sterling would have scored. Hart stopped playing so his putting the ball in the net didn't count for much.
BR is frustrated we lost and doesn't want to surrender to bad officials. He doesn't really think that Mason is biased, he just thinks he is incompetent, and anyone who has ever watched him ref a game would find it hard to challenge that assessment.
