So Timmy S has shown a penchant for the youngsters early in his reign (not surprising considering his work with them at U21 level I guess) and it got me thinking...
In the last few years we have produced (or brought) some real talent in our youth teams and I just wanted to know what everyone thought about them? Should we really be putting them in our first team or securing top loans instead? It has always seemed like the youth doesn't get a real look in at Spurs and end up being farmed off the bloody Yeovil.
I guess I just want to know more about our 'kids' as it seems like we have a lot of good ones....
- Bentaleb
- Coulthist
- Kane
- Carroll
- Livermore
- Pritchard
- Falque
- Ceballos
- Stewart
- Fryers
Who's having a good loan? Who is near the first team? Let's talk about it!
Someone lay some knowledge on me!

This is not an Operation Yewtree sting!
Sherwood - he loves the kids...

If we loan a player out it should be on condition they play. No play, no stay!!

Yes but if these youths were good enough they'd showcase their talents somewhere on loan when they were 18/19, the parent club would see they were the real deal instead of hype and play them.
Plenty of youngsters go out on loan to the championship etc and don't even do the business there when in theory they should be starring in it

Fair point. If they're good enough I'm sure the scouts and coaches would bang on the managers door!
I liked that under AVB all ages played the same tactics but other than that there never seems to be much of a plan.

Genius.
Whenever I look into the youth stats for our loanees it's rare to find anyone with a decent run of games in a season.

The expectation is too high that reams of precocious talent like Rooney should be emerging from PL academies.
It just doesn't happen.

True enough. Even Barca - arguably the best in Europe at producing youth - have a low success rate.
I guess the difference there is that even playing in Barca B is a high standard.
I think the U21 and U18 leagues in England were a good step towards getting some good playing time

Barca (as for some other clubs) can at least say that the core technical ability of their academy charges is high. What might be seen as "wow" to England watchers is most likely quite "meh" to them.
One of the things I liked when watching Spurs in the 2011-12 Nextgen was the fact we were not playing a 'typical' English game, in style of play nor physique of players. Some of the games you would have been hard pressed to know Spurs were the English side.

Not expecting all of them to be hits, but take Townsend for example. Went out on loan 9 times before he made a breakthrough towards the first team - aged 21/22. That's a lot of time trying to prove yourself and from what I understand not all of those loans were successful

We don't expect a Bale a season coming thru the ranks.
But 1-2 competent squad players per season, who will have a decent term in the seniors, is not too much to demand.

Yes that's my point. An example would be man united where players like fletcher and Evans have come through in the last several years (not part of the '92 generation). Not world beaters but have definitely added to the squad and saved them X amount of money on going out to sign someone.
