biggest gaming disappointments

can be games or whole series, things that should/could have been brilliant but ended up disappointing

for me, a few of mine in no particular order,

all the Fable sequels-first Fable showed so much promise but there was still massive room for improvement. it just got worse though, the storylines became stupidly uninteresting, the side characters remained as annoying as ever, gameplay seemed to get even more linear. think it was also disappointing they didn't explore the morality side more which could have made it really interesting

pretty much any Star Wars game, Bounty Hunter really stands out for me though. finally a Star Wars game that wasn't simply a lightsaber hack and slash! remember we ignored all the reviews and warnings and ended up paying the full £45 release price great idea but so abysmally executed, it was too simple and repetitive. also p.15sed me off you couldn't use the credits from the bounties for anything other that concept art

Assassins Creed-another fantastic premise (although imo they could have done without the Desmond storyline all together and just focsed on the individual assassins) AC2 was fantastic from the storyline to the gameplay, problems started to come after that though. Brotherhood started out great but finished very tamely, as for Revelations and AC3 never even bothered with 4

well cheers for taking a couple of minutes to read this

any thoughts?

Hitman had lots of good levels. One of the very few games that had me replaying levels to try do them in different ways.

LA Noir, I spent ages playing that game till about half way through i suddenly realised i was watching a crappy movie while pressing buttons at random, with the occasional driving scene thrown in.

Still not played LA Noire. Or Max Payne 3 but I haven't played any of that series. Might pick them up for £5. LA Noire looks like it has a bit of a Heavy Rain feel to it (or, as you say 'watching a crappy movie while pressing buttons at random' ) which is my sort of thing.

Going to get The Last of Us and Beyond: Two Souls soon. No spoilers please.

LA Noire was amazing for the first couple of hours, got repetitive and kind of dull after that
the characters are pretty dismal too. Cole Phelps

storyline was good though

Pretty much every Rockstar game of the past 6 years (except for The Ballad of Gay Tony).

They all start of as interesting and engaging, but you soon realise that the games are a bit of a slog; clunky controls, monotonous gameplay, boring cutscenes, tedious side-missions and persistent 'hand-holding' throughout.

To me, Rockstar have become the gaming equivalent of the Emperor's New Clothes; their games aren't that great but no-one will dare say so.

did you ever play the warriors on the ps2 from rockstar....now that was a good.game

I know what you mean about the hand-holding, I think introducing checkpoints in GTA V was an especially bad move, but other than that I think you're being harsh. Controls are fine, you could argue GTA IV was monotonous at times but it suited the story, cutscenes are anything but boring. Are you including Red Dead Redemption in that list?

I am so very sorry but red dead redemption is quite possible the best gaming experience I have had over the last 5 or 6 years. If you like 3rd person open world rock star are at the pinnacle, I am not saying they are perfect but they are all very good games. To try and suggest they aren't that good is quite short sighted. You may not enjoy the genre that is fine but both GTA v and rdr are quite frankly brilliant games and are heads and shoulders above any other games in the same genre.

Agree with you on Red Dead Redemption. Not on GTAV. Played about 80% of that game and just never went back to it.
