Ray, I wouldn't put Spurs up there. Their fans are a bit like ours. In the early 60's, they had a fantastic team, so their fans are living off that, even today, just like ours. Believe me, we understand their pain!!!

You can Villa and Leeds to that list too

Didn't Nigel say leicester fans had delusions of grandeur when he took over from Sven? He was right as well

No, he said that certain people around the club - players like Mills - were suffering from delusions of grandeur, but some of our more sensitive fans (ironically fitting the same description perfectly) mistook this as a personal insult to them.

To be fair there is a fine line between craving progress and having expectations of it. I think every club has fans that are like that but those that have big fans bases or have historically had a period of success, are a little worse. The fans that are at extremes with opinions are always the first to be heard whether that is (delusions of grandeur, ignorance, negativity etc).

Leeds has lots of faults, that probably is one of them but not by any stretch of the imagination the worst.

Hi DM, i remember the interview well. No players were referenced or mentioned at all so none of us can say for certainty who it was aimed at. If memory serves me I believe he came out with it after Stringer mentioned the fans booiing, which is why some fans thought it may have been a dig at them. I personally think it may have been, but I have no issue with that

During the Pleat years and between 2003 and 2008 I think I had delusions of mediocrity.

BlackStarr, I remember listening to that interview several times after all the fuss blew up. I can't remember the exact words, but my conclusion was always the same: Pearson was asked a question about the players, followed up before he could answer it with a mention about the fans, probably about some of them booing as you say. He then answered the first question, which sounded a bit like he was answering the second bit about the fans. But I remain convinced that his response was talking about the squad that he had inherited from Sven, much of which has been moved on since of course.
