I'd have thought that the west coast media would have waited until Rangers were confirmed as our opponents before selling off all our players. The blatant attempt at unsettling our players is hilarious and absolutely typical of what they always do in the build up to a game against either of the Old Firm.
Today the Record are running the story about how GMS wants to be playing in England next year. What the quotes say is that at the end of his deal which expires in the summer of 2015 he'd like a crack at the English Premiership if it was possible. Of course he would. Why is that a story?
I expect a glut of these stories in the coming weeks if Rangers get through, particularly as we also have a game against Celtic the week before the semi final.
These are the stories I expect to see - keep in mind that when it comes to these stories the Record and Sun tend to ignore the fact that Rangers have no money:
Ciftci to sign for Rangers/Celtic
Gunning to sign for Rangers/Celtic
Celtic to bid for Gauld along with English teams
Robertson to sign for Celtic as Izzy replacement
McNamara considered as Lennon replacement if Lennon chooses to leave
Armstrong to sign for Rangers/Celtic
Which story do you think the west coast media will print next? If I was a gambler I'd go for Gunning to Rangers, although they might keep that one until the week of the Rangers game.
The weegie media is nothing if not predictable.
So it begins

I think you will find I havent
As I said on one of my first comments on this article......"I cant sit and take a complaint bout this from Dundee United fan all that seriously when he is complaining about it the odd time the level gets cranked up coz his team has games against the old firm coming up"
I'll take the opposite view from yourself....and say I couldnt care less about the impact media attention has on Dundee United.
Its a small team mentality because the bigger clubs continually in the spotlight suffer from this far more than those that arent.
So for a fan of a team that is not in the spotlight as much to complain about this, and come at it from an angle that its done to benefit teh old firm in someway, and is aimed to be detrimental to the old firm's opposition...I am going to call that what it is, utter bollox that is nothing but laughable
At least you admitted that its perhaps not designed to undermine your team or your players...thats what got my back up the most.
But even then.....you really are in no place to say that the media are acting in a way to benefit the old firm when its simply the case that they are writing non-stories about your club for a change and not ours.
Yes, those stories are written with a view of appealing to old firm fans, that I get.....but a story painting Rangers or Celtic in a bad light, even if its complete made up nonsense, is printed just as quickly and is in no way beneficial to the club that is the subject matter

St3vie, your argument would stand up better if I stated ALL articles in papers are designed to benefit the Old Firm.
I never said that and never would.
What I said was that THESE non-stories are beneficial to the Old Firm because they unsettle the player(s) in question.
All I've said is THESE non-stories always come out in the run up to a game against your lot or the other lot. I don't get why that's got your back up to be honest. In no way have I commented or given any opinion on anything other than this matter in this thread.
You've got yourself in a tizzy about something that you have to accept happens.

How can you possibly state with any confidence that a story linking Gauld with Real Madrid has substance yet a story linking him with Celtic hasn't?

Leigh - there was an actual scout at the game from Real Madrid and the scout did say they were impressed with him. He was also put on a Real Madrid shortlist of young talents.
I'm also not saying that Celtic don't have Gauld or any of the United boys on their radar - they undoubtedly will. However, the genesis of the stories that will appear over the next few weeks won't be because the journalist in question has talked to his contacts or because there has been a move by a party to sign that particular player - it'll simply be a case of the journalist publishing a story just because there's an upcoming game between the two teams.

"You've got yourself in a tizzy about something that you have to accept happens."
Says the Dundee United fan, writing an entire article, saying the "west coast media" and there "blatant attempt at unsettling our players is hilarious and absolutely typical of what they always do in the build up to a game against either of the Old Firm."
Correct me if I am wrong...but have you not got yourself into a tizzy about something that you have to accept happens....ie when your club is up agaisnt one of the old firm, the spotlight, thats unsually shone on us, starts to shine on you, and you have to deal with it, the odd time it happens??
Should you not just accept that this happens and moreover, be fcking grateful that in most cases it only happens when you have games coming agasint us....and it isnt a constant diatribe every bloody week??
I mean you are the one sitting writing an article about this, and how wrong it all is, bleating that you are "a supporter of a club who has had to endure this kind of thing for far too long".....when your club is nowhere near the papers half the time FFS

Just because I posted an article relating to a news story on my club hardly makes me in a tizzy
Anyway, why should I accept it? If you guys are happy enough with the written media writing rubbish that is detrimental to your club then that's your perogative, but I don't accept that and I don't see why I should just endure that level of shoddy journalism.
You seem to be suggesting that we should just live with it. I disagree. I think the coverage in this country of our national game should be based in fact and should be of a far higher standard.
Just because it only happens every now and then doesn't make it ok ffs.

Ivan
You are posting an article about your club, complaining about the media, and come at it from an angle, that the media are acting in a pro-old firm manner, and are deiberately trying to undermine your players and your team ahead of games against the old firm.
At what point are you going to realise that is not just an article relating to a news story on your club and the shoddy journalism on show....but actually an attempt to suggest there is bias in the media, slanted towards the old firm
If your article was exactly what you are trying to say it is....I would have treated it as such....an article ripping the unt out of the shoddy journalism in this country....and I'd be fully in your corner.
Sadly, it wasnt that, it was much more, and had wee team mentality right the way through it.
The suggestion that the media intently wrote these stories to harm Dundee United is a ridiculous statement to make when the old firm are harmed by many many more stories the media choose to print, on a far mare frequent basis, purely from the stand point that they want to sell papaers and dont give a fck about who it harms
