Why are we so reluctant to label our players young and experienced the World Class label.
Are we too hard, negative towards the home grown players? should some of these players be labelled world class?
- Sturridge
- Cahill
- Wilshere
- Baines
How do we define World Class? What is the difference between class and world class.
Anyways thought I would strike up a friendly Friday discussion.
World Class Brits

Gareth Bale is the only world class British born player we have right now.
Alot of the others can be classed as very good players like Ramsey, Wilshere, Rooney and Oxlade Chamberlain. Although the young three in that four have the potential to become World Class players along with Luke Shaw and Ross Barkley .

Good list.... but no Cruyff no Ibrahimovic....to name two
World class players are ones who actually stand out & people will pay good money to watch them alone, both within an ordinary side (Bale at $puds) - (Ronaldo for Purtugal) (Ibra for Sweden) or a top class side Ronaldo at Real, Messi at Barca
Ruud Gullit was immense with Van Basten & Riikjard at AC in the late 90's
Romario utterly owned the 94 world cup
Older fans will tell you that the Late Tom Finney & Stanley Matthews were as good as any of these in Their time, on poor pitches with none of the technology of today
Not to mention the likes of Puskas Eusebio Pele etc
On to Brits....small list really
Moore Charlton Best Banks...(Dare I say Gascoigne) that kind of list

I see some posters are trying to shoehorn Sturridge into the 'world class' bracket.
On what grounds! That he has proven himself at the top level? CL and Internationals? Has multiple medals? Drags team through on his own peerless performances?

Currently, there are no world class British players playing in the prem, and only Bale in total.
At their very peak, theses are a recent few
Giggs
Scholes
Cole
Gerrard
Lampard

John Terry has been a world class defender imo. Probably one of the most consistent performers over the last decade.
There is loads of potential in the current side, despite what people say about England's future as a national team. Just need the right guidance and I reckon we could have a few World Class players in the wide/attacking positions.

No it is true Terry is or was world class. Even this season he's been one of the best defenders in the league. That's before you talk about all the silverware he's helped his team achieve.
Still a caant though.

Sorry I would disagree. He is a winner yes and he has been fantastic for chelsea but that does not put him in the two top defenders in the world in my eyes which again IMO he would need to be to be world class.
