Make mine a Ginter's

First off, apologies in advance for the hideous pastry based pun on the heading. I welcome 1's stars for such a hideous opener. I think I'm still drunk from yesterday!

Back to reality. Reports out of Germany this weekend say that Arsenal are keeping very close tabs on one of German football's most prized defensive assets, 20 year-old Matthis Ginter. Steve Rowley was charged by Wenger to go have a nose at the lad this weekend.

Some of you (who don't follow the Bundesliga) might remember that name? Ginter was linked with Arsenal a couple of transfer windows ago. Ginter, then, was seen as an up & coming prospect. In recent times, he's seemingly lived up to his potential & is now on the radar of a fair few suitors.

The boy recently made his International debut for the German's in a friendly against Chile.

Ginter is a very real physical presence and what possibly sets him apart from his contemporaries is his canny ability to read the game. He has a very calm, level head on his young shoulders.

It's fair to say that his club Freiburg are no great shakes at Bundesliga level and the school of thought is that they may well be resigned to losing their prize asset this summer if a sizable offer is made for the player.

Ginter is thought of highly in Germany and is quite likely to make the final-cut for the German squad to play in the World Cup finals this summer in Brazil. At 6 ft 3 Ginter has an aerial presence, but is also seen as an organiser and potential understudy for Per Mertesacker.

Any attempt by Arsenal to lure the player to London this summer will very likely be made more problematic by the fact that Ginter, now, has a number of big-named suitors all out for his signature.

As well as Ginter having his name linked with Arsenal & more recently Manchester United, the word on grapevines of Bavaria is that Bayern Munich no less are very impressed by the big 20 year olds wares & would very likely throw their hat in the ring should Freiburg be open to selling their young talisman.

Isn't it Ginsters?

Yes, but pun's by their very nature don't always have to be accurate.

Only one year left on his contract, I believe, and he's capable of playing in midfield!

Yup, I heard that too (the contract thing).

And yes, he actually played a lot last season as a holding midfielder, he's a big lad, but as the Post touches on, he's very much a reader of the game, not unlike his compatriot Mertesacker.

I actually think Arsenal should bust a nut to get the lad. Inevitably Bayern might want a say, like they feel duty-bound to with ALL young German talent.
