Stuart Pearce has confirmed his interest in becoming the new Nottingham Forest manager.
The former England U21 coach made his name as a player at the City Ground, and managed the club for a short time in 1997.
Billy Davies was sacked on Monday after a run of eight games without a victory, and Neil Warnock says he turned down the chance to replace him following talks with the chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi.
Sky sources meanwhile say that Al Hasawi turned Warnock down because he wanted too much money, and was not the right man for Forest.
Gianfranco Zola is currently the favourite with Sky Bet for the job, ahead of second favourite Pearce.
Warnock said the job might be right for Pearce, and the former England left-back admitted he would be interested provided there is no interference on football matters from the chairman or anybody else at the club.
"I have spent ten years training as a manager and that is what I am," Pearce told talkSPORT.
"There are some really good jobs out there at times that come up every now and again and Nottingham Forest outside the Premier League is an outstanding job for whatever manager wants it.
"I would have thought there are certain things a manager wouldn't accept. Things like picking of the team and players coming through the door who are signed by somebody else that you don't want.
"Those are probably the two golden rules for any managers. Some are different. Some accept that. It depends how desperate you are for a job. Some would accept that and some would want total control. It is varying degrees."

Fair enough, Clarke could do a good job somewhere in the club and sounds like more experience is needed from people who know the game. Wouldn't be surprised to see him back at all.

There was a muted protest at the fact of and circumstances to his sacking, or so it appeared, and I thought it would be a decent gesture of Fawaz if he was to bring him back in some capacity, putting the Davies regime firmly in the past and offering some kind of olive branch to those fans who've been alienated somewhat by the club under Davies' instructions.
I doubt Clark would accept a puppet position for that purpose but he has plenty to offer in terms of how the game is played at executive level and could be a useful advisor to Fawaz moving forward. He needs somebody for that role, why not a club legend wronged by the last administration?
On the other hand, Malky Mackay and his pal Moody could also fit straight in too; one of the few bonuses of having your last manager strip the club hierarchy completely bare I suppose! I'm not convinced by that pair to be honest... their signings for Cardiff were not exactly fruitful.

I couldn't agree more. Not been nice at all. Had to keep schtum for so long.

Frank knows virtually every owner, director and manager in all 92 clubs
would be great to see him back

Didn't know that, but clearly there are many reasons to get him back into the club and only one keeping him out: Fawaz's pride.
He should do what he can to get him back as it'd heal a whole heap of wounds in one fell swoop by the sounds of things.

FFS get a grip Webbo.
Anyway Frank Clarke is spent. Have you not forgotten the gibbering fool he turned into last time.

Iwas, can't remember that? I have already stated think the new manager should be a Forest man and agree that Fawaz needs to carry in the good work of getting McGovern involved by going back for Frank Clark. Clark has massive experience and contacts and would be instrumental in rebuilding the bridges that have been burnt with other clubs. The fact that Forest were arguing with Chelsea over the loan fee for Chalobah will have been noticed by others who will be wary if doing business with Fawaz. Clark could be the answer to Fawaz's prayers IMO.
