Bayern good or bad for German football?

Morning all,

Having watched United taught a bit of a lesson on dominating a European football match it got me thinking about Bayern and how they are at the top of the tree in terms of European sides but also how they dominate their domestic league.

They wrapped up another championship in record time, are unbeaten and could win another trebble. BvB are seemingly their closest rival and are nowhere near able to leep pace on or off the field.

I personally think that this is bad for the division. What has appealed to me most about German football is how competitive the division is, or was. There were a number of different teams that seemed to have a chance of winning, where as now its all a battle for second place. This is exemplified no more thank how BvB have had to cope in the past 18 months. Despite being their closest domestic rivals, one of the biggest clubs in the country and beaten Champions League finalists they have seen two of their key players move across the park in the past two windows and two absolute key players at that.

It would be the equivalent of Barca selling Iniesta one summer followed by Messi the next to Real. Or City selling Aguero and Toure to Chelsea. I just think that seeing a team so hugely able to outstrip any of their rivals in financial terms (because lets be honest thats what its all about) cant be good for the game.

There are imbalances in almost every domestic divison. Over here we have Chelsea and City with their owners bottemless pockets, United with one of the largest turnovers in the world followed by Arsenal and Liverpool. But the imbalances are not so great that these teams stars are constantly sucked into one squad, or not so much now at any rate, and the title race is more competitive as a result.

Bayern is a great club and they have a great team, they have built their empire the right way and not through some pot luck sugar daddy ownership but I think that the Bundesliga has lost something as a result of this domination and I personally would like to see something come about that helps to readdress the balance, though I dont profess to know what that could or would be.

If United didn't sit back so deep, we'd have been destroyed.

Has the penny finally dropped for Moyes?
Playing so open against City was tactical suicide

exactly thats my point, they cant be exprcted to smash every team if they are sat so deep against them

Agreed, but there was also a noticeable mentality difference between Tuesday night & against City. I think the players still think we're on City's level and tried to play as such, whereas against Bayern they KNEW they'd have a really hard game, against one of the best teams in the world.

True, Llori, it was a classic example of attack against defence, and I think a draw was a fairly reflection of the game, despite United having the better chances.

It wasn't a "draw" really was it!

0-0 would have been a draw, if the tie had ended at the end of the 90 on Tuesday united would be out on away goals, ergo they lost. They now have to win the tie away from home, from a weaker position than they started the home tie.

Take nothing away from United, i was expecting them to get smashed, which is not nice to see happen to an English team in Europe, but the media coverage has been cringeworthy..

They cannot play like that away from home because they absolutely need 1 goal minimum..

What I find funny is when Mancini first came he played a similiar style of defensive football against the big teams and we were called "Negative" and "Boring" when Moyes (And Fergie v Real Madrid last season) do it, Its "A spirited organised team performance"!!!

It was negative and boring though.
Pellegrini has shown this season what should've been how we played under Mancini given the quality of players he had at his disposal

2-2 or 3-3 draw would see us through actually. We do have to score but we don't necessarily have to win to go through.

I still expect Bayern to go through though. But at least we have a chance, albeit a rather slim one.

Arsenal gave Bayern a much more open game...they still kept possession for the sake of keeping possession.

They're a great team but something's not right this season.
