Rooney is NOT on 300k.

Wayne Rooney’s bumper new five-and-a-half year deal at Manchester United was portrayed as an act of desperation. United, in a season spiraling disastrously, were simply throwing money at the problem; and wasting it by paying over the odds.

But the detail of the ground-breaking deal shows it is a far smarter agreement; there is reward and relatively no risk for United while, if it works, it is expected to be rolled out by other clubs for their star players.
Rooney’s new contract does not place him on a higher basic salary such as the £300,000-a-week that has been claimed. Indeed there is understood to actually be a small drop in the £240,000-a-week he was being paid – but there is limitless scope for future earnings if he and his adviser Paul Stretford tap into United’s commercial department.

With ginger managerial meastro Moyes at the helm, United out of champions league football next season and the ever failing impact of bewigged croxtethian curb crawler Rooney on the pitch, the timing for the commercial aspect of this agreement couldn't be better.

Would be far smarter to link earnings potential to on field performance rather than "commercial performance"

Yes but when Yaya was on a reported £250k a week you didnt look into the breakdowns of it all did you?

Whys it different for fatboy? Dont like it when the shoes on the other foot?

To be fair, If true, it could work out to be a smart move for both parties.
Dont really see it being used as a contract model for many other players though, as Rooney exists within a level of commercial appeal beyond most players in the game.

If it's good you believe it, if it's not you deny it.

When a player at his peak signs a new contract it's not going to be for less is it.

If ferguson was still manager then Rooney wouldn't be there, fergies gone Rooney stayed and you think he won't be on more money and is actualy taking a pay cut,

that's usually how it works.

If this article is true then he also says that Rooney was on £240k a week. A lot of you have tried to tell us over the last few years that he wasn't on this reported £250k figure (£240k is close enough)

Whatever the truth is, you're paying a lot of money for little return at the moment.

sounds like he's on a lot more than £300k a week
