The most important area to improve for me is the full back position. We aren't going to play with a lot of width in our attack with the two lads up front and because we lack to pack the midfield. We've seen Glen Johnson on his game adds so much to our attack especially in games where we are struggling to break down the opposition's bus. In these types of games they become equally important to our goal scoring threat as the strikers do.
Johnson started off the year great but he's dropped off horribly and given his wage think we can make an upgrade there. Flanagan is not good enough. He puts in 100% every game and i love him for that but he simply does not have either the attacking ability or in my view the defensive ability. Sure he's done well given his age and perceived shortcomings however we are now competing to come first and need first rate players in the starting XI. Enrique i actually think gets a lot of stick which he doesn't deserve. No winger can beat him. He is powerful and extremely quick. He's pretty good on the ball as well but falls short in the final third. Perhaps he's a bit of a liability as well as he's pretty unpredictable as Carragher has said.
Top class full backs however are rare. Zabaleta, Luke Shaw, Baines and Coleman i think would fit in that category. That sort of caliber of player is expensive. For that reason i wouldn't mind seeing Glen Johnson retained. At 29 he can still be a good player for us next season. Left back however we really do need to bring someone in. I really think we should get Luke Shaw. He would be a lot but he's class and hopefully we'd have him for many years so value for money would be pretty good. Always good to have English talent in the side as well. Also it would be a great sign of intent and our presence as a title challenging club again. To take a player off Chelsea, Man Utd and Man city would be a massive statement.

For Right Back i'd take Micah Richards, i believe Rogers can turn his fortunes around just as he did with Coutinho and Sturridge, at hes best he was an England International and for a brief period a starter for Man City, as well as being Versatile.
As for left back, i'd love Luke Shaw but for the price being touted is too much, alternatively i'd take Fabio Coentrai, who would suit Liverpools style of play and much cheaper than Shaw.

I wouldn't mind Johnson going if we get someone like Montoya in and Contero for the LB position.
With the likes of Flano, Wisdom, Ilori, Sahko, Montoya, Contero, Enrique, we could start making a defense for years to come with Agger and Skrtyl there for experiance.
