Van Persie vs. Suarez

Now we are in the afterglow of the PL season, it seems only natural to look back and analyse the efforts of the standout players. One of the principle proposals is that Suarez was by far and away the best player of the season.

However, his inability to fire Liverpool to the PL title will possibly haunt him forever.

In 2013, Manchester City claimed that the only reason the crown eluded them is that van Persie signed for their rivals at United instead of them. Had he penned a deal at the Etihad, it is indisputable that City would have walked away as champions that season.

RVP's sheer firepower delivered the 2013 title to United by some distance, so the question is, which player was more valuable to their respective teams?

Can Suarez ever be considered as important a player as Robin van Persie? I also point you in the direction of the praise that was being bestowed upon Steven Gerrard until Liverpool's season imploded. Indeed, it was he that was being heralded as the key component to their title challenge, as opposed to the Uruguayan.

If it is possible to win a title single-handedly, this honour has surely only been achieved by one Robin van Persie.

What's certain is that United wouldn't have won it without Fergie.

In 2012/2013 RVP did indeed score lots of goals; but by the same token his arrival led to fewer goals from Rooney. So, how great was the net effect to the team? Indeed, there are other negatives in RVP arriving. The team's attacking play became slower and the development of Welbeck and Hernandez was curtailed. I honestly think the impact of RVP has been overstated and that in the long run, it's done us some harm. (I also think that RVP was the first of the players to start sulking this season.)

In fact, I'd say the biggest reason United won the league in 2013 was Mancini - a hopeless manager who caused in-fighting within the most expensive team ever that gave the team to another that was weaker in most departments.
