Sorry all for another GOT article, I would put it on a TV/film board if there was one
There's been loads of badass fighters on GOT and some of them I'm sure we'd all love to see go toe to toe. Which characters would give each other a good fight?
Gregor Clegane "The Mountain" Vs Khal Drogo
A real heavyweight clash, I think Drogo is the better fighter but The Mountain would win this one imo. Drogo's downfall would be his lack of armor and favouring the arakh (curved sword) which struggles to pierce thick armor.
Syrio Forel (Ayra's "dancing master") Vs Oberyn Martell
Much more finesse with these two, Oberyn would probably win this one. Although both are very fast and agile, Oberyn would have the advantage of having a longer reach with his spear, rather than a sword.
Bronn Vs Daario Naharis
Two sell-swords, both favour long and short blades, both like to be quick on their feet and also both prefer light armor. Too many similarities to guess a winner for me.
Ned Stark Vs Barristan Selmy
Both old and reputed warriors but I think good old Ned would win this one, far more battle experience and he had a Valyrian steel sword to be fair.
Jon Snow Vs Ramsey Snow
Although we haven't seen much of Ramsey in combat, it seems he may be just as talented a fighter as he is a torturer. I think Jon Snow would win this one though, the man never seems to have trouble killing whatever is put in front of him.
Ygritte Vs Yara (Asha) Greyjoy
Would be interesting to see two of the best female fighters in GOT (the other being Brienne) go toe to toe. I think Ygritte would win this, seems more fierce and has more experience in combat.
Jaime Lannister Vs Brienne of Tarth
Would have been interesting to see these two have a fight for real, would certainly be an even contest but I think Jaime would just about be the victor.
Loras Tyrell Vs Robb Stark
Certainly two good fighters with similar style, think Loras would win this one, Robb spent his early years mostly learning to be a lord, whereas Loras was trained to be a knight.
And finally...
The Unsullied, the Second Sons, Mance's army, the white walkers and the combined armies of Westeros Vs Khaleesi's dragons
Still lots I've missed out; The Hound, Grey Worm, Stannis, Ser Jorah etc etc. Which characters do you think would give each other a worthwhile fight?

I hope so, but it properly properly wound me up that he didn't just fúcking kill him outright.

Martin's worst decision imo

Read the books, It spoils the TV series somewhat but it also gives a better understanding of the storyline
Jay
It was different in the books, Oberyn was trying to get a confession but he was killed in the fight. I posted an extract from the books

Oberyn Classic GRRM, builds up these amazing characters then brutally kills them off in a horribly avoidable manner.

That's just it - we only knew about Oberyn for basically the equivalent of 2 hours - he seemed a decent character, good backstory & just an all round interesting person.
Then BAM there goes his eyeses.

I don't think it was that different, the mountain was all but defeated on both occasions. Obertan should/ could have finished him off

Obertan
Oberyn was the better fighter but it was more of a contest than what was shown on TV.
