...I'd like to be the first (and probably only) person to say that I thought we played well. Sterling, for what was probably the biggest game of his life, was excellent. Sturridge played a good game and scored a nice goal. Barkley showed flashes when he came on. Roy made all the right changes. If you want to blame anyone then blame the defence, but on this showing we should be favourites against Uruguay. This was always going to be the toughest game, and we played well.
Onwards and upwards.

Gerrard and Henderson did there job in midfield, sat back and gave the ball to the attacking three. Some decent long passes from Gerrard and Henderson could have scored.
Worst performers were Baines and Rooney, but a more than passable performance going forward!

Sat back!!!!!!
They should take charge. Sat back indeed.

I get why people are having a go at Gerrard - I thought he had a poor game, but Hendo - who was basically left on his own in the middle of the park against Pirlo, Marchisio and verrati - had a good game.
Oh and England played well, if they play like that in they're next 2 games they'll get out of that group

Taking charge against a midfield 4 of Pirlo, De Rossi, Veratti and Marchisio is always going to be a tough ask. They sat back, mopped things up and distributed the ball to the 4 attacking players who (bar Rooney) were excellent.

How blinkered can you be? The Italian defence hardly broke sweat in that game!!

Italy were excellent standard win for them, so comfortable on the ball and Pirlo showing Gerrard the player he will never be..Fair play to them

England created so many chances before Italy parked the bus.

Uruguay hit the post, hit the bar, had one cleared off the line. Easily had the best chances. England players blazing the ball wide from distance are not chances in my book.

Excellent post, Reincarnated, I fully agree. I thought your lot played very well, you attacked whenever possible, you kept your shape, yes, your left side was weak, but, give credit to the Italian right winger, he was very good.
My moment of the match? No question, in the first few minutes (what is he now, 19?) Raheem's thunder shot into the side netting on his WC debut. That boy is saturated with confidence.

For all the talk of the youngsters in the English side you've been ripped apart by an old fella! Nobody in that side to touch Pirlo!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Pirlo is still a class player and he played well but were in no way ripped apart by one player. In fact apart from his dummy that set up the first goal he did not cause us many problems. England played well and gave as good as they got, with better finishing they could have won that game easily, ripped apart? I think you were watching through your SNP glasses Jimmy.

I think you will find that the Italian defence were worked just as hard if not harder then the English defence, try looking at the game impartially instead of as a bigoted, jealous Scot.
