"I understand Steven's concern but I don't want to get into naming names because it wouldn't be fair to the players.
"Every Premier League manager past and present knows what I'm talking about, probably even [England coach] Roy Hodgson. But sadly this attitude is not unusual these days.
"You've only got to look at how many players pull out of an international game on Tuesday and Wednesday then are running about for their clubs the next Saturday to see that this is a very real issue."

Gerrard is one of the worse culprits.

The reaction to this
What Redknapp is saying is blatantly true.
He doesn't need to single out players to embarrass them.
He is making a point about the culture amongst modern players, in general.

Its probably gerrards fault he is loved by the media despite being a below average footballer. A diving oenalty merchant who never won a game fairly, was never an athletic player or a good captain and leader.

If Gerrard had not played for media darlings Liverpool he would have only won half the caps

The reaction to this is probably in light of the fact we've just failed at the world cup.
If we'd just beaten San Marino 6-0 everyone would've just laughed it off. We all know it happens but Harry's timing for self promotion is great, I'll give him that.

Then he should shave said that. after all is Spurs the only club that he has managed that had internationals? Maybe we were? But I thought he signed all these triffic lads. great trainers and family men. So why complain when they want to stay with their families?

Gerrard's response to that would be intriguing. He might have really been injured, but is this not the same man who pulled out of a friendly against Holland in August 2009 because he "felt a slight soreness in his groin," as per The Guardian? The one who was fine to play and score in Liverpool's Premier League season-opening 2-1 loss to Spurs five days later?

I normally stick up for Harry and his right to an opinion but i think this time he has overstepped the mark. I dont mind him generalising and saying what we all know (that players who know they will make the squad for a competitive game go missing for midweek friendlies) but he shouldnt have been so specific about players who trusted him.
Its wrong on the player side but he shouldnt have put the focus on any current or ex-Spurs players who clearly said what they did in confidence.

Fair enough Chicken
At least he realised he'd overstepped the mark and refused to be drawn on names.. he does make a good point about England players' attitudes, shame he felt the need to include us in his comments though.

Mauricio's
I wish he hadnt mentioned our club and just left it as though he knew this kind of thing happened - as Venables has also now come and and said. Its nothing we didnt know but he should have just generalised it - not made it (our) club specific.
