Andy Carroll

Out for 4 months
£15 million seems a good deal now
Thankfully we got rid of the sick note when we did
Long live West Ham United!

Atleast with Torres and Shevchenko they had the goals in the past, Carroll was an 11:30pm after you've had 12 pints!

I still retch at the Carroll fee. Certainly one of the worst transfers in football history. It was a panic buy, which thankfully has been offset by getting a reasonable amount back when he was sold.

It wasn't a panic buy

He was a target (supposedly top target) for Kenny in summer. We just got the chance early.

The big mistake was negotiating the 'we don't care what the price is as long as it's Carroll +£15mil for Torres.

No one could have guessed that Newcastle could have go Roman to go that high.

Anyway, lovely lad, shame about the injuries.

We had to buy someone to fill the void of Torres leaving. We did it on deadline day in the January window. Sorry but it has the hallmarks of a hasty panic buy. Henry's reasoning about the fee just makes it worse. We might have wanted the player, but Torres handing in a transfer request turned it into we must have that player.

Thankfully i feel the owners who were new to the sport at the time have learned a lot since then.

agreed

but I don't think buying a player you fully intended buying in July the previous Jan because he was available is a 'panic buy' at all.

It happening on deadline day with short negotiations might make it look that way, but in the context of him being a top target anyway makes me disagree is all.

Semantics mate. Needing to fill the void of a departing star player on the last day of the window, pushed up the fee for Carroll and made the whole situation I would argue one which involved a lot of panic. Desperate buy may have been a better term to have used.
