Wasn't it £17m?
Plus we got a 2m loan fee for the previous season
Whatever it was we got for him it was a masterstroke. And to think there were a number of people on here that suggested we keep him
Well, if it was £17m plus the £2m then that's even more of a bonus
Ian Ayre pulled a rabbit out of a hat with that deal
He's just a rubbish Rickie Lambert.
I feel sorry for the bloke.
The massive transfer was nothing to do with him yet he had all the pressure that goes with it. His career has totally stalled due to injuries which are presumably beyond his control aswell.
Bet he is feeling a bit low at the moment whilst most ppl are taking the oportunity to have a laugh at his expense.
I'm sure the many thousands of £££ will help
Sold by his boyhood club in what was effectively a vanity transfer, with LFC having to 'make a statement' after selling Torres.
Struggled to do anything of note under Kenny and then sold by BR to WH just as the LFC improvement began.
Lost his England place and generally considered a donkey by fans up & down the land. Seems like a lovely lad from interviews I've seen.
Must admit I feel a bit sorry for him too.
Injury has really stalled his career but he does have a very poor injury record to be honest. Whenever I've seen him play he leaps up so ridiculously high in the air and doesn't really seem to take care when he comes back down again. This might explain all the ankle and leg problems he has had. Either he needs to strengthen his muscles or lessen the impact when landing on his feet. Doesn't help with the style of football West Ham play either.
The fee seems now like a good bit of business by the club and Brendan has already shown he isn't scared of making the big calls.
I thought I read 17.5m too.
Yes, we minimised the pain of that disastrous signing.
The worst transfer in football history, £35m
Not too sure about that KLS.
There have been some terrible transfers over the years, Torres and Veron(to utd) spring to mind.

AC Milan to Chelsea
no if someone can sell a tramp and pass him by as a footballer that is the biggest con in footy history!
Atleast with Torres and Shevchenko they had the goals in the past, Carroll was an 11:30pm after you've had 12 pints!

I still retch at the Carroll fee. Certainly one of the worst transfers in football history. It was a panic buy, which thankfully has been offset by getting a reasonable amount back when he was sold.
It wasn't a panic buy
He was a target (supposedly top target) for Kenny in summer. We just got the chance early.
The big mistake was negotiating the 'we don't care what the price is as long as it's Carroll +£15mil for Torres.
No one could have guessed that Newcastle could have go Roman to go that high.
Anyway, lovely lad, shame about the injuries.
We had to buy someone to fill the void of Torres leaving. We did it on deadline day in the January window. Sorry but it has the hallmarks of a hasty panic buy. Henry's reasoning about the fee just makes it worse. We might have wanted the player, but Torres handing in a transfer request turned it into we must have that player.
Thankfully i feel the owners who were new to the sport at the time have learned a lot since then.

agreed
but I don't think buying a player you fully intended buying in July the previous Jan because he was available is a 'panic buy' at all.
It happening on deadline day with short negotiations might make it look that way, but in the context of him being a top target anyway makes me disagree is all.
Semantics mate. Needing to fill the void of a departing star player on the last day of the window, pushed up the fee for Carroll and made the whole situation I would argue one which involved a lot of panic. Desperate buy may have been a better term to have used.
The worst Liverpool signing ever bar none.
