Half life is overrated

This game does not nearly deserve the hype it gets. The puzzles are ridiculously easy, the gravity gun is a gimmick, the combat is nothing special and the main character doesnt talk! You cannot tell me that Gordon Freeman is a better character than Daxter, Glados, Joel, Ellie or anyone in TF2! Gordon Freeman is as bland as characters get and whilst i may get hate for this it needs to be said!

The fact that a half-life mod is a better fps than any thing you can buy today must surely speak volumes no?

Admin1 and I have been playing Synergy in the office recently...the great thing about Steam is we know exactly how many hours it had cost us.

Obviously you've both wasted time as it is very overrated.

I was put off the original Half-Life after it gave me horrible motion sickness...
I never really got into Half-Life 2 either. It was just dull. Very dull setting, dull characters, dull gameplay. I had no motivation to go on with the story, so just left it. Another game where I really don't understand the hype.

What you're forgetting is that Half Life invented an awful lot of the things games now take for granted.

For example, prior to Half Life, First Person shooters were level-based 'shoot everything in sight, reach the boss, progress to the next stage'. Half Life was and still is, incredibly immersive, it actually told a story, better yet it told it through your eyes, by having events happening around you during the game as opposed to relying on heavy narration and/or cut scenes. This, coupled with playing as a silent character meant you felt part of the experience, A feature which is now standard within games such as COD etc.

It included puzzles that required you to use the interactive environment to solve, it required the player to think, and was effectively a linear game, without feeling restrictive at all.

Honestly, if you think it is over rated then I respect your opinion, but I can only say that it's a shame you never had the opportunity to play it when it was new, before Call of Duty/Halo etc came along, as I have no doubt you would feel differently.

Half Life is beast.

Counter-strike was a mod for Half Life.
No Half life, no Counter-Strike.
