On 17 May 2004, 21 year old Robin Van Persie signed a four-year deal with Arsenal for £2.75 million, just over half of Feyenoord's original asking price of £5 million. Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger, who planned to convert Van Persie from a left winger to a centre forward as he had successfully done with star player Thierry Henry, said of his new acquisition, "He can play on the left side of midfield, as a creative player behind the main strikers or as a target man."
There is a pain and it never goes out and it is watching Van Persie celebrate a goal in a United shirt.
Yet there is no pain in seeing Welbeck's huge smile as he scores in Arsenal red.
Why is that?

Another reason arsenal fans don't like RVP is because he was injured for a lot of his time at arsenal. The club stuck by him, when a lot may have sold him, all while paying him a good wage. Then as soon as he had first proper full top class season, he left. People felt annoyed that he couldn't have repaid a bit more of the loyalty that arsenal showed him throughout his career. Especially when wenger was saying for him to stick around another year, then the club could afford to buy top players. That's the reason why a lot don't like him.
