Arg 2 v 3 Eng 2005 (Rooney)

This was a fantastic game, albeit a friendly but a friendly against the old enemy, the day after this game, Mike Parry (on talksport and tbf had the ability to come out with idiotic comments) said that Wayne Rooney was "one of the greatest, if not the greatest in the world"), in 2005 Ronaldo wasn't at this level and Messi was a little too young, in case you forget in this game, Rooney's game was about skill, taking people on and score a good goal.
At this time, Rooney was phenomenon, a "get you off your seat player that could beat a man, intimidate an opposing defender and generally scare the hell out of the opposition".
What we now have is a staid, benale footballer, someone who has been labelled a no.10 because of his passing or a no.9 because of his finishing.......................where has this explosive, world class talent gone, the one with pace, the Rooney of 2005 had everything.
The Rooney we have now is a player who has no brilliance, no flamboyance or the ability to excite or take the game by the scruff of the neck......believe me, he used to be able to do this.
Is it down to SAF, training to be a different player or lack of desire, money etc... or is it down to being turned into a player that he wasn't ie a player to supply RVN, Ronaldo etc.
Either way, we can all agree that Wayne Rooney is not the player that we bought (in terms of potential) nor the world class player that we thought he would be.
Any comments that he could be the all time United Scorer (Dennis would be this with a better team, Shearer/ Andy Cole would had he joined at the same stage of his career etc) are futile in this argument,

i just think his body changed as he got older, he is much bigger build now compared to what he used to be.
he became less confident and lost the explosiveness about his game.
same as torres, just not as bad.

In my time of watching England I'd say Linekar, Shearer
and Owen have been better England strikers.
