Thinks thats unfair that. He lost his pace & put a bit of beef on under Souey but when he moved into the centre he was still a class act, especially under Evans in the early seasons. He wasn't the same player but he still had it to an extent.

You're right though regarding the 87-90 period, he was sublime.

I guess that was the problem. He went from majestic to pretty good.

I forgot about Wright - what a player he was. My team is of players who played Premier League football but many of them were past their best by that time. As for Barnes, can you name a better English player on the left side of midfield/attack in the last 30 years? It's the position that has always eluded England - well nowadays, every position is that !

Showed how good his footballing ability was though that, even as he lost that explosive pace, he could move into the centre of midfield & still look the part.
