thought we had an option to buy him outright, but looks like that only kicks in in 2016.
atletico have the option to cancel the loan in the summer and take him back for a fee.
Have a feeling we wont be seeing him around next summer if atletico have their way!! Strange deal!

Never understood the 'loan with option to buy' myself. Can someone explain the benefits for the club loaning him out?

Nah we've loaned them Hernandez. They're doing our bidding and keeping him happy until we are back in the CL.

king, it'll likely be different for every club.
For example, the benefits for us loaning Nani to Sporting and Monaco loaning us Falcao are very different.
Plus some times there's not always a benefit to the parent club when loaning out players but they can have their hand forced, for whatever reason.

the benefi to us is likely having a "back up" right back and not having to pay his wages for 2 years, whilst he develops.
i assume the fixed fee of £5m after 2 years means that if atletico were happy to not take him back after the first year, they wont be too upset selling him for £5m after the second.
why else would it be a 2 year loan? if theres a fixed fee then surely it would be a 1 year loan and fee at the end of year 1 if we want him!?

Talk about idiocy. He was their player and under contract to them. And so you would have to do a deal each suits them. Or do you guys think Liverpool is above basic economics.
