Neville and Savage's Spend Advice

Hello Man Utd fans. I am sick to death of hearing so many pundits trying to solve Manchester United's problems with a spend spend spend policy. Savage has been banging on about how Man Utd need to spend 100s of millions of pounds to be competitors for the title again. Now Neville has said united are 100mil off the title.

In my humble opinion throwing money at a problem is not the man united way. Ferguson would buy players when he needed too and often spend quite a bit but one thing Ferguson did was to promote from within. The core of a Manchester United team for decades has been a homegrown contingent. Players looked at by other clubs as average or below par, but Ferguson won countless titles with a team of 'average' players.

If anyone has seen the tweet flashed about a few weeks ago that on this day United beat Arsenal 8-2 with this line up... The team was distinctly average. What this goes to prove is that a manager and the club - Manchester United - should not be looking to chuck money left right and centre to change the entire team to revamp it with quality but rather put hard work in to recovering a lost philosophy on the training ground, promoting the core values of the club and reignite the fighting spirit that was lost when Ferguson retired.

I hate seeing these columns about Man Utd need this player and that player - they need quality here, world class here. The United I feared did not talk like this, they made world class teams out of driven players.

Man Utd are a club that have household names - Ronaldo, van Nistelrooy etc but those players made themselves at United more than came to the club already made. Purchasing one or two a window is good for the club but what is being proposed by some of these pundits is preposterous in my opinion. Tell me I'm wrong when United fans would point the finger at City when they bought a a team of world beaters. There's nothing to be proud of by the way City came to win titles, I'd hate to see a club like United and it's fans approve such a philosphy when the club itself came from much humbler origins. Ferguson was a genius but a genius that was allowed to learn.

Would you United fans see my article here as fair? Or are the majority of you of the same mind as Neville and Savage? Is money the problem solver here or would you rather see a team built from the ground up like in yesteryear?

I have said it time and time again that Juan Mata for me gets too much praise around here. If you are all into stats, then he is your man. However, for the fee paid for him the lad needs to do much more. He might be more talented than Rooney as a number 10, however Rooney is more effective there. To this day don't know why we bought him.

United we win

Is it your aim to just talk as much bollox on here as you can every day?

Nobody has suggested lvg needs to go whatsoever

What he does need to do us up his game because as yet, he's been pretty terrible. Far worse than moyes was at the start of his tenure and moyes hadn't added 170 mill worth of new players

No point pretending otherwise. To date, lvg has been gash in terms of tactics and formations seen on the pitch considering he's spent as much as he has

We've been utterly embarrassed twice now in 6 games against far inferior opposition

I'm not saying they aren't good signings, just that I don't get the logic of if there are gaps in the squad there, surely the benefit is in filling those before improving on others.

He sorta did try and fill the gaps melts but for me, we are still short in defence despite him buying 2 defenders and a third that can play there in Blind.

Who had paid any attention the likes of Vincent Kompany or Pablo Zabaleta before they joined City? Even Yaya Toure has had the best years of his career here.

United's academy hasn't produced a world class player since Paul Scholes, they have had an abundance of academy graduates that have served the club well and been good for the squad - eg Danny Welbeck, Darren Fletcher, but these players aren't anywhere near good enough to build a team around, so you buy players in. It's quite simple.

What United need right now is stability in the starting XI particularly at the back. The standard experts like...er....Robbie Savage writing off our defence. In truth Jones, Smalling and Evans all need to step up but have failed to do so due to injury. theres a decent partnership in there if they can stay fit and form a relationship like all good centre back pairings. Playing with a different back four every week will be a nightmare even with class defenders. You simply cant chop and change so much. Just need a bit of luck for them to avoid injury and settle down.
Need to remember this is practically a new team now. it needs TIME.

Time is indeed a healer. I want to see the team marinade for a bit, rely on itself not constantly looking elsewhere for the fixes. This is what pains me, Man United are a team that has always given 110% on the pitch and has relied on players that aren't bought from other clubs for huge fees. It is early days which is why time should be granted for the team. Spending more and more is not the answer.

Sadly, it is

We need at least 2 new defenders including 1 top class CB with a good injury record and a decent backup RB

We also need and combative DM for situations such as the second half against Leicester

As good as Blind and Herrera are/could be, we are still back to Fletch and Fellaini if they get injured depending on Carrick's fitness

Stopped reading there. This simply isn't true and people should stop saying it. Take the class of 92 out of the equation and you are simply left with nothing to back up this statement. At all.
