Welbeck!

I know most people on here are a bit embarrassed to mention the air shot or "dummy" done by Welbeck yesterday which led to Ox goal.

To date, Danny has done a lot of things right and has performed well. However, we have also seen glimpses of what we used to laugh about when he was a united player.

He isn't the type of the player that will slide the ball past the keeper and look natural in doing so like a Walcott for example. His goals look very instinctive like the Walcott of old.

However, he needs to improve his finishing or he will be replaced by giroud when he returns.

He was saved by ox scoring but imagine if we lost the game and ox wasn't behind him to score that.

Boy needs to step up now!

I remember when everyone was moaning Theo couldn't finish and look now. He's arguably the club's best finisher and still improving. Welbeck is unfortunately having to take stick for the fact he's not the 35mil plus "Finished article" top flight striker that people wanted.

What he is however, is one of the brightest English talents in the game, with all the natural attributes required to easily become a 20 goal a season striker. Composure finishing is the only thing he lacks but, as demonstrated by Theo, that can be taught/is learnt from playing experience.

Welbeck's work rate alone dictates he will be a better player come seasons end than he is now. He's still settling in at Arsenal and we're not going to see his best until Theo returns but ultimately Welbeck is only going to get better.

It's harsh to judge any striker with Theo out of the side. Since we all know that the entire team plays/attacks differently with him in. The Arsenal side plays to a shadow of it's full capabilty with Walcott gone and the first position to suffer his absence is the CF. For starters Theo provides at least 7-8 tap ins a season. And that's when the player he's setting up can't keep up with him. Welbeck can keep up and will get more tap ins than anyone previously because of that.

Welbeck is, in true Wenger style, a player whom has been bought with one eye on 2 and 3 seasons from now. And in terms of managers, he's come to the best there is as developing young talent and creating the finished article. He couldn't be working with a better manager and Wenger couldn't have gotten himself a better rough diamond to give a finishing cut.

You combine the workrate, attitude and attributes of Welbeck with the nouse for talent and developing young players of Wenger and it's diffuicult to see anything but a match made in heaven. The question isn't "Will Welbeck be good," but moreso "How good is Wenger going to make him?"

I remember when someone said Walcott doesn't have a football brain.

He doesn't.

I sometimes wonder if Theo IS the teams footballing brain. When he's out of the side it really does look like a classic example of the saying "Cut off the head and the body dies." We're dismal without him sometimes, as though nobody knows what to do when he isn't playing.

WengersBodyGuard

the problem is that when the heat is on, when you really need a goal, he kicks at aur. I'm not saying he's useless. I am saying he's decidedly average though. And Wenger will not change that
