Is there a reason to buy an Xbone?

Now this isn't ment as an insult, and any comments that are not relevant to the discussion will be deleted.

So my situation is prob in the new year I will finally go next gen, I will be honest I am heavily favouring the ps4 at the moment. So my question is can anyone give me a good reason to go X1.......

I will tell you I am not interested in gimmicks (TV stuff/kinect) and the only thing that has appealed to me so far is Halo master chief collection, and I think that is just more for nostalgic reason. Although I enjoyed the last few halo games overall I am a little bored with them, this feeling can be shared also with the gears series.

So what other reasons are there to grab an xbone? I will be honest I can't think of many

Melton, I wouldn't have bothered with a launch PS4, my kids bought it for me, I don't actually game that much these days, but for me there is nothing that has set the gaming world alight, but in a consoles first year that is to be expected.

I have enjoyed the free to play games http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/189831-the-best-free-games-on-the-ps4 as well as some of the free PS+ offerings, So gaming on it hasn't really been that expensive

I have three games one came with the system Killzone Shadow Fall which was ok not great, I really enjoyed Killzone 2 and 3 so was a bit disapointing, TLOU which wasn't full price and well worth picking up and Driveclub which I am having some fun with.

I do like to keep up with the gaming news and next year the PS4 has more than a few games that have my interest, shame I don't really have the time to play them,I am more of a casual gamer these days

The graphics card is like a 7870 radeon but not quite as powerful according to an article I read online.
There were a couple of moments where the frame rate dropped on cod advanced warfare.
I mean how much more power can they get out of it?

Seems to me like it has hit its limit already, or am I wrong, please tell me if I am as I'm no expert on how developers get this hidden power from consoles.??

Tbh pc cards can't be compared with those used in a console. Although they may be more or less the same thing you can optimise the cràp out of the console which is not possible in the pc version as not only have we got 100s of different models to consider but over a dozen different brands, consoles we have 1 card.

Simon 1080p and 60 fps are a reasonable standard for this gen, most TV's are 1080p and 60fps is doable so not bad. although the one is struggling on both counts due to it's weaker GPU and one of the more obvious examples of the PS4's extra power.

Greg there are a lot of things that are being done to optimise the tools developers use to design games, Sony have a dedicated team known as ICE who spend there time doing excactly that, compute is a perfect example and has barely been used at the moment, next year expect a step up as developers come to terms with the new hardware and tools.

Mark Cerney the person who designed the PS4 has said that it will be 3 to 4 years before programmers get the most out of the PS4 and he should know being a developer himself.

Sony did a lot right this gen

Simon, Good point about the comparing the PC to the PS4, PC's will never be optimised to the extent that consoles can, for the reasons you point out

Couldn't agree more, we have a total role reversal from last gen, in which M$ started sooooo well, and Sony made one huge cöck up and basically took them 4/5 years to catch up, they(Sony) finished the strongest but mass effect and rdr were huge on the 360, and the timed exclusives really helped to pave over the cracks that was the late m$ game catalogue.

Ditto Amiga, I'm kidding myself to think I even have a say, my kids will choose!

I'm the same, these last couple of years there has been very few games that have excited me.

This remastered thing is boring. Its like rereleasing Star Wars with all of the CGI. Not into it and its a quick money making scheme for people who care too much for graphics. Id rather companies spent more of their time on new ip's or a quality sequel.

Yes but it is good for those that may have missed them I only played effect 3 as it was free on PS+ so wouldn't mind giving it a go, but I don't like EA so maybe buy it used.

This remastered stuff only works for the big games so isn't really a problem atm
