Only a few days to go till we can get back in to PL football, in the mean time a thread I nicked of another board.
I’ve seen a lot of live music down the years, from punk to classical, 20 people to stadiums, some where sublime music others memorable for others reasons.
The late John Martyn at Shepherd’s Bush Empire stands out as a real musical treat, it was late in his life and he was an absolute mess, took him a few minutes to catch his breath just from walking on stage and did the whole thing sitting down sweating profusely but once he started the music he was mesmerising
Leonard Cohen Brooklands, Weybridge – just a master class, brilliant live, great chemistry with the audience and a real showman. Fantastic band and backers.
Faithless – Love watching ‘We Come One’ live, real crowd involvement, some good beans, what a buzz. Best was at the Brixton Academy
Sx Pistols – Wasn’t the best performance but memorable because my Mrs insisted I take her and then wanted to stand in front of me like we’re at a fecking Maroon 5 concert, got what I deserved given the context which was a warm pint in the face.
Babyshambles, Garage in Islington – Went for the freak show really and he didn’t disappoint. Spend most the gig crowd surfing with anyone who climbed on stage, off his face on smack, arrested after the gig and made the front page of the red tops the next day.
Buena Vista Social Club, Hammersmith – Speaks for them self really, collection of talented musicians with the style and swagger you’d expect from old timer Cubans.
Oasis, Heaton Park – The tone was pretty much set when the bloke in front of me going in was stopped with a full bottle of vodka, told he couldn’t take it in so necked the whole thing, walked about 15 meters and collapsed, it went down hill from there.
De La Soul, Kentish Town Forum – did a ten minute speech on sexism and equality in hip-hop, I was actually believing them until in unison they go “FEEEEECK THAT SHEEEEET!" before inviting only the best looking woman on stage for their finale who were vetted on their way up, many turned down and then of them the had to enter a second phase to see if they were hot enough to go backstage
Stranglers, Shepard’s Bush – top moshing
Roni Size & Represent, WOMAD festival – raving with my mum, odd experience
Kora, WOMAD festival – never heard of them but it was a beautiful day and nearby there was an air show on so they arrange the red arrows to do a couple of flybys during their set, arrow formation, full smoke, straight over the main stage with the music all adapted for the display
So what stands out for you? Either great music or just memorable for another reason, historical gigs or significant to your personally?
Admin happy to multiboard.

The early 70s were my golden period for concerts:
Eric Clapton's Rainbow Concert in 1973...great to see Slowhand back along with his mates Pete Townshend, Steve Winwood and Ronnie Wood.
Led Zeppelin at the Brighton Dome in 72, the fourth album hadn't been out long...they opened with a storming version of 'Rock and Roll' and didn't let up...they were banned from appearing at the Dome ever again after that night!
Roxy Music, again at the Dome just after the second album was released...supported by Leo Sayer in a clown's costume!
It was also a great time to be supporting Spurs...Martin Chivers in his pomp and 3 trophies in three years...great days

These are the most notable ones I can think of
- Rammstein in Ljubljana last year was perhaps the best one i have ever experienced.
- System of a Down was fun.
- Gorillaz was absolutely fantastic.
- Weezer and the Cure in 2013
- Radiohead
- Motorhead, Black Sabbath and SoundGarden in the summer at Hyde Park wasn't a bad day.
- DaftPunk an absolute age being one of my first concerts was amazing.
The worst experience I have had at a concert hands down was when I was invited to a Jay Z concert in October of last year. Not that I have anything against the music, but we ended up getting there late as anything, nearly thrown out at the door and because of a foul mood that resulted from this, we got in a fight with three 's and had to leave early. To top it all off, I missed my damn train home and had to stay in London all night.

Deep Purple at the Odean Birningham in 74 and Zeppelin at Knebworth around 79 are the standout ones for me.
I once saw 'The Police' at Aston University, supporting a comedy punk band called 'Albertos y lost trios paranoias'. Went for a curry after in the city center and Sting, Andy Summers, Stewart Copeland and a couple of roadies were sat at the next table to us!
