Norwich City v Huddersfield Town

Norwich City v Huddersfield Town

Date: 13th December

Venue: Carrow Road

Kick off: 3pm

Head to Head: There have been 39 previous meetings between the two sides with Norwich being victorious on 12 occasions, Town 11 and 16 draws.

Brief history: Norwich was founded in 1902 (6 years before Town) and first won promotion to the Football League First Division in 1972. Since then they have played a total of 23 seasons in the top flight, with a long continuous spell of nine seasons. Norwich have won the League Cup twice, in 1962 and 1985, and the FA Youth Cup twice, in 1983 and 2013. They were founder members of the Premier League in 1992–93, finishing third in the inaugural season and played in its first three seasons, reaching the UEFA Cup 3rd round. Norwich had most recently returned to the Premier League in 2011 after a six-year absence.

Away Fans: I’m not sure how many tickets we have sold for this game but I’m hoping for a good away following. Apparently away fans are housed on one side of the South Stand with the facilities and view of the playing action being good. The stand is very modern with plenty of leg room. Some fans on internet sites say the stewards are quite strict and have a tendency to order away supporters to remain seated throughout the game, so we shall see how that goes down with the Town faithful.

Catering: As Delia Smith is on the board of Norwich City, the food available within the ground is apparently very good. The Club even bake their own pies which not only include the usual array such as steak & kidney, chicken & mushroom, but also a number of 'matchday specials' (which change from game to game) such as beef in red wine gravy & cheese, mushroom and garlic. Speaking of Delia who could forget her famous half time rant on the pitch?

Pubs: The main pub for away fans is the 'Compleat Angler', which is located opposite the railway station and is about a 10 minute walk away from Carrow Road. It is situated on a river bank and has a nice outside terrace overlooking the river. Might not be so nice on a cold December day though. The pub itself is a bit basic but offers food and is away fan friendly. If this doesn’t appeal then Norwich has a number of pubs located in its centre. Not far away from the ground and towards the City Centre is a leisure complex called the Riverside and this has a number of drinking and eating establishments, including a Wetherspoons, and Lloyds No.1 outlet.

Played for both: Jacob Butterfield, David Phillips, James Vaughan, Mark Barham and of course Grant Holt who I should imagine will be given a tremendous reception. And of course I’m sure Johnny Howson will also be given a reception (albeit of a different kind) by the Town fans.

So it’s the Terriers v the Canaries and although Norwich are currently in 8th place with 30 points and Town 15th with 24 points I really believe we should go there and play without fear. I thought we played well against Brentford, the players showed belief both in themselves and their team mates so let’s just have a go. Same team and tactics as last Saturday please Mr Powell if everyone is fit.

My prediction is Town to pull off a shock victory with the score being 3-2, Wells, Butterfield and Holt being the scorers.

Disclaimer: This is a new ground for me and I’m really looking forward to visiting it but this means all the above information has been taken from various fans websites and not my own knowledge or experience. Therefore any false or misleading information is not down to me.

Morning ...

Got a sickening feeling in my stomach after yesterdays total capitulation.

Just feels like we are right back at the beginning again, the days of 0-6 and 1-6 when Dean tried to do this league on the cheap.

Several managers later and here we are again with another thrashing...progress ? Different manangers, same chairman... Seems to me Dean is paying too much attention to wining and dining the toffs in the executive suits and not enough time looking after the club...we need , and always have needed some quality players to compete at this level.

Same old story..no wonder the fans are drifitng away, and how Dean has the gall to criticise the lack of support just shows how out of touch with reality he really is. Maybe it is time for him to ship out and let another captain run the ship HMS Huddersfield Town...maybe they will spend more time attending to the engine room and less time prancing around in the first class lounge ?

It is utter bollox to say Town conceded so many goals because they lost a player. After keeping it tight for the rest of the first half, how the hell did they capitulate so quickly in the second?

NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

Desperately need two quality strikers and two quality defenders. Like Champers stated, how can Town realistically compete when ex Premiership clubs get tens of millions of pounds in parachute payments. That little con needs to stop, it isn't a fair playing field anymore.

Mr Hoyle, get your wallet out in January please and prove your loyalty, commitment and ambition. No more talk anymore, it's time to walk the walk!

true enough LV...Norwich keep 2 at the back to cover our loan striker, that leaves them 8 midfielders/attackers against our 8 midfielders/defenders plus our keeper....where is the missing man.?..not in defence but up front...

Love that jacko! He needs to get off that bike and look at our club, the fans want success, that means even midtable mediocrity for now.... Listen to the fans..

Mixed signals from Dean yesterday. On the one hand we'd not even left Peterborough and he was saying it's a long way to go for a defeat and then on the other hand the end of certain players contracts can't come soon enough

Which players Mr Hoyle? Pray tell.

Ward, Gerrard, Peltier, Gobern, Hammill - the ones Powell clearly has no intention of playing and doesn't want at the club - but who are eating the wage bill.

No complaints in relation to those players leaving, bar Hammill, he could still be good for Town.

If football’s only about money, then teams would be better off replacing their pitches with large Monopoly boards. They could have a giant dice and mascots dressed up as a Scottie dog, a hat, a boot or whatever. Super fun! Of course, Stuart Hall won’t be available to commentate…

On the 27 of November 2014 the Huddersfield Daily Examiner quoted Town Chairman, Dean Hoyle as saying…

“While this club might post a loss of, for instance, £2m a year, we are competing against clubs prepared to post a loss of £20m.

I am not willing to take on that level of loss from a personal point of view – and I am not prepared to put the club in that situation.”

Sensible man.

According to the BBC, on the 9th of December 2014…

“Ipswich Town have announced a loss of £7.2m for the year to June 2014, a fall of £2.6m on the previous 12 months.

Town will avoid any Financial Fair Play sanctions, having come in £800,000 under the limit of £8m for losses in the 2013-14 season.

The figure is a dramatic reduction for the Championship side compared to 2011-12, when they lost £16m. However, Ipswich's overall debt rose by £3.6m to £86m, which is almost entirely owed to owner Marcus Evans.”

If you haven’t seen them, here are the figures for the season 2013-14

Turnover: £13.8m
Loss: £7.16m
Wages: £13.9m
Player trading: £0.5m
Gate receipts: £4.98m
Debt: £86m

How big a bag of brass will improve Smithies distribution, which has been consistently crappy under at least four managers and assorted goalkeeping coaches? How much does a club have to shell out for a professional footballer who can take a decent corner or free-kick? Etc. etc…

Money is not the answer, money is the problem. Maybe it’s time to take stock… or are the inmates already running the asylum?
