How many of them have you seen and what do you make of them?
Think it's a bit of a weak line up compared to previous years.
1. American sniper
2. Boyhood
3. Birdman
4. The imitation game
5. The grand Budapest hotel
6. Selma
7. The theory of everything
8. Whiplash
So far I've seen 1,3,4 and 5. I really enjoyed the grand Budapest hotel and
The imitation game but the other two are a bit meh.
So of the ones you've seen so far which do you think is the best?

"thats why I like Jackie Brown more than Pulp Fiction, because, in JB you like and care about Jackie and Max and hope they get away with it.
just my viewpoint"
I didnt like Jackie Brown. I found it by far his weakest, I thought the writing was too forced at times, almost an 'end of an era' piece, any ideas left floating around in his mind from the previous 10 years, he felt should be 'out there'.
It was no surprise that he left it so long until his next (Kill Bill), which was a much more modern, stylised film, that had a much tighter script and performances.
Tarantino, along with Nolan (Inception aside) both stand out for me. I'm not 'into' Kubrick, I appreciate his style but as has been mentioned, I've never been drawn in emotionally by one of his films. I feel like I'm watching an exceptionally well done art project. Not always a bad thing, but the lack of connection is a real negative for me.

Just to add, I thought American Sniper was mostly awful. Propaganda for the U-RAHHH generation, that mostly prettied up the guys less than stellar reputation through life. I also thought the most important part about his story, his death, been omitted was Clint Eastwood basically setting his stall out for an Oscar, really pandering to the masses.
The sniper v sniper thing was silly, and lowered it to Enemy at the Gates levels (Didnt hate that, by the way!) and I just in general struggled to care about anything i saw on screen.
Unlike Boyhood and Birdman. Which had me so incredibly invested.

"along with Fargo and True Romance, it is possibly my favorite movie."
Then my opinion certainly wont change that, but whilst you saw languid as a positive, I saw it as tedious. I like Tarantino because he doesnt bother with the confines of realism too much. Jackie Brown bucked that trend, and I found it suffered because of that.
Saying that, had I not known it was a Tarantino film, maybe I'd have enjoyed it more. Instead I think my expectations were too high for it to ever stand a chance of getting close to. Who knows.
Cant argue with True Romance or Fargo though.

I do think Jackie Brown always gets wrongfully ignored when discussing Tarantino films, it really is one of his finest, like many directors his best years were early on when he still had that spark. Today his films are far too considered and lack the vitality of his first films.

You should check out Barry Lyndon, he's a likeable warm character, played by Ryan O'Neal who's always really good. And all of Seller's characters.
