I watched the first 20/30 minutes of Birdman and thought it was terrible. Anyone else seen it?

Seen them all bar Slema. None of them are that great, poor year for western movies.

I've heard Boyhood is a shoe in to win it, nice idea but wasn't executed well. Out of the list I probably enjoyed Whiplash, Theory.. and Imitation Game the most but the last 2 were more like very good TV movies.

Grand Budapest hotel I would like to see, I like wes Anderson films, the life aquatic is quality.

Between Birdman and Boyhood for best picture without a shadow of a doubt. J.K simmons to win Best actor for his performance in Whiplash. Did anyone see the fake baby in American Sniper, what was that all about. For such a production you'd expect more haha

The imitation game looks good also.

Yeah he is he deserves all the praise he gets for his performance in Whiplash, hopefully he will get the recognition he deserves

The theory of everything looks like a great comedy.

WHiplash is my favourite of the lot, although Imitation Game, Boyhood and Grand budapest are very good as well. Theory of Everything, Selma and American Sniper were good, but I preferred the others. Haven't seen Birdman yet

JK Simmons was nominated for best supporting actor, not best actor. I'll be shocked if he doesn't win an Oscar though

Is he up for actor or supporting though?

I was really impressed with Eddie Redmayne's performance.

Can't stand Wes Anderson film, they look stunning but the stories and feel are so twee and wet. In real life Anderson is probably a fat twee indie girl who eats cupcakes and listens to Francois Hardy all day.

..............

Indeed he is. He has been brilliant in just about everything I have seen him in.

Didn't get the hype surrounding Birdman, it's a ok film but because of it's unusual shots and quirkyness for a major Hollywood movie it's getting far more praise than it deserves. Inarritu has made far better movies, just that this has the Hollywood money men backing it so it gets hyped up far too much.

Keaton was good though.

He's one of those actors that's usualy the best in the films he stars in, Sam Rockwell being another.

I watched it and thought it was brilliant to be honest.

I think major film buffs and those who have studied film (I studied film and documentary) appreciate films like Birdman more than your average film goer.

Unless of course you are a massive film buff and/or have studied film then my theory is wrong.

Cereal Spiller

It looks great, I'm not doubting that, Anderson has an eye for really beautiful work. The film itself though like most of his work is shallow and weak. He really needs to work on material that isn't his own, I quite liked Fantastic Mr Fox and I think a large part was because he wasn't written by Anderson although he still managed to worsen it. He needs to get out of his comfort zone and create something different.

Oh and Whiplash for best picture...

The final performance and the line "oh your one of those single teared people. What am I a double fecking Rainbow" is all that is needed to win it for me.

Birdman was absolutely brilliant, great performance from Michael Keaton considering he hasn't led a film from the front in a while. Gorgeous Cinematography as well. Looking forward to Inherent Vice by Paul Thomas Anderson, great director.

This is why the movies fails. Movies shouldn't have to be only appreciated by buffs, a great story should be appreciated by more and this film doesn't because it is poorly executed.

I love movies and I think Inarritu is a very good director. This isn't one of his best. Just because he used few shots and had jazz playing virtually thoughout doesn't make this film any better. It's pretentious and that is never a reason for something to be good.
