Darren Fletcher has officially signed a 2 and half year contract for West Brom on a free transfer. He was a good player for the club and was the embodiment of the 'never say die' attitude our club under Sir Alex Ferguson was famous for. He made his debut against FC Basel and went on to play 342 games and score 24 goals for us.
Injuries and Illnesses may have hampered his last few years at the club but he was a very dependable player who always gave 100% for the club. He was in my opinion an important player for us between 2008/2011 (which coincided with Owen Hargreaves' injury problems at the club). Hard to believe it was 10 years ago (give or take a couple of days) since he played well alongside Keane and Scholes against Arsenal at Highbury.
Here's a YouTube video of some of Fletcher's best moments in a United shirt - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJF8GU2PdFs
Goodbye to a club legend and a great servant to the club!

Goodbye to a club legend

Fletcher was a solid servant, who also was very lucky to play at the level he has done for decade.
He is certainly no legend, maybe a cult hero to some.

Have to agree with Stretty here.

Aye, a cult hero hero in the O'Shea, Brown mould. A youth team grad. who has had some good moments and has done very, very well from his career. He was useful for about 18 months, but generally, an extremely average midfielder who won't be missed on the pitch, good luck at WBA though.

Perfectly summed up.

We certainly miss the before illness version of Fletcher on the pitch now.

Blind is a far superior player to that version of Fletch.
So is your mate Carrick.

If you made up your best ever United XI, then your second best, then your third etc. I don't think Fletch would get in the top ten teams. That's forty midfielders, and I might be being generous.
He was lucky to be around when we werent exactly blessed with talent in that area.

Blind has yet to prove himself a big game player like Fletcher was for us. Saf trusted him to chase down better players than him so many times against the likes of arsenal and Chelsea. That's what we miss now. The nearest we have had recently was what Fellaini did against Chelsea.

Fletcher would have been regarded as a much better player if he could play at that level when it wasn't a big game.
Fletch was also s h it for a lot of big games. He wasn't brilliant in all of them.

Neither are a lot of players. But a pre illness Fletcher was a benefit to any squad. I'd love that option now. He was even good post illness in the game in Munich last year. We suffered when he had to come off.
Just to clarify, I don't think he was world class as he wasn't. But for safs system where he played lesser players to do a job, he was up there with any of his ilk at the time.
