They played for both sides.........

When Saturday comes so does another eagerly awaited (particularly in Wakefield) instalment of "They played for both sides......." posted late this time due to over indulgence in a London wine bar yesterday afternoon......

This week sees Leeds United take on high flying Brentford.

In this episode we profile another Republic of Ireland international who made 8 appearances for his country between 2004 and 2008.

He began his professional career at Blackburn Rovers and after several loan stints at no less than 3 clubs in three years, moved to the hallowed turf of Elland Road in 2005. (Some might call him a journeyman that no one wanted...... )

This battling midfielder went on to make a creditable 148 league appearances for Leeds United in four seasons, the initial one on a season-long loan, scoring 10 goals.

Douglas was bought by Blackwell and then retained by Wise and is another former captain of the Mighty Whites. We do seem to go through them don't we?

In 2009 this player moved on to Swindon Town eventually arriving at Brentford in 2011. So far he has made over 140 league appearances for The Bees.

His name? Jonathan Douglas.

For followers of the Mighty Whites......

1) what's your abiding Jonathan Douglas memory?
2) who else "played for both sides...."?
3) which current Brentford player would you sign for Leeds United?
4) can you name ten other ROI internationals who have played for Leeds United?

For the visitors from Griffin Park.....

1) is Douglas an integral part of Brentford's team?
2) are you excited for your second cup final of the season and the chance to visit the home of football?
3) Mark Warburton, genius football manager or master baker?

"They played for both sides......." Is the official unofficial warm up to the Matchday Thread and is bought to you in association with www.richveinofformmyarsethisispromotionchasingform.com.

Keeping it real in a world where Leeds United is truly on another planet.

All yours.....

1) one of the better midfield players we have had over the years and far better than a lot of the dross we have endured since. A mistake to let him go.

2) cannot think of a single one.

3) Douglas is the only one I know anything about.

4) Kelly Harte, keane, oleary, irwin, phelan, green, keough, giles, mcphail

"what's your abiding Jonathan Douglas memory?"

Having tea with him and 3 of his mates, over from Ireland, after the Crystal Palace "mole game" in the players' lounge. Guy was a real hoot!
