Following the recent revelations regarding Anderson Silva and his failed drug test the question that is now loitering on the surface is whether or not Anderson Silva is still the greatest of all time. Now before i discuss his current status i wanted to post a link to the drug that Silva was tested positive for.
http://www.steroid.com/Masteron.php
A few key points about the drug:
-Masteron is not used for gaining lean mass but used instead for cutting or losing weight.
-Can provide strength boosts despite cutting weight.
-For users who are not lean or muscular to begin with, it will have no effect visually.
-Side effects include, acne, loss of hair on head.
-The steroid is widely available on the black market.
In MMA the argument of who the greatest of all time is,has been settled for a while. Anderson Silva is in most peoples books the best fighter to have ever graced the sport, boasting 34 wins with 20 coming via KO there isn't any other fighter in the history of the sport that has had the longevity or explosive impact that Silva has had. He dominated the middleweight division for years and even went to light heavyweight and won fights at that weight. Blessed with blinding speed and reflexes,Silva has totted up a large amount of spectacular finishes and performances. However the question now has to be asked, does the greatest of all time tag still hold water?
For me personally i have always had him and GSP at the top of the pile. But with Silva testing positive it has put his legacy in a precarious position. I now find myself asking questions such as,Has he always been using steroids, Was it just a one off, Were his stunning finishes down to drugs,How could he be so anti drugs yet be taking them? Some of these questions we will probably never know the answers to but i feel the damage has already been done. The fact that he tested positive has left a permanent stain on his wonderful career. Whether you still hold him in high regard depends on the perspective you wish take. I believe he never took drugs in the past and i believe he used it just this once. This for me still holds his reputation some what intact. Some may believe he has always been on them, which of course would leave his reputation in tatters. Despite my personal beliefs, Silva for me cannot be called the greatest of all time purely because it would crucify the sport. Politically he will never be considered the greatest but i still in my heart believe he is along with GSP the best that there has ever been. If more information regarding him taking steroids in the past come out then my view would completely change but as of now i still consider him to be the greatest. Although i see that argument being void once Jones wins his next few fights.
So is Anderson Silva still the Greatest of all time?
Anderson Silva still greatest of all time?

Oh and even though I'm not a fan, Jon Jones already has the best resume in MMA.
If you compare the fighters that Jones and Silva have fought it's not even that close, add to that, that Anderson has 6 losses on his record and i'm not really sure why Anderson is so universally regarded as the best.
Most exciting maybe(pettis?) but not the best

I understand why many think he's the best but I value the quality of a fighters win streak in terms of the opponent over the amount, I also think that middle weight is one of the weaker weight classes, Jones is also unbeaten apart from a very dodgy disqualification.
I don't like Jones, fedor is without a doubt my favourite of the candidates for GOAT but I think the facts support Jones's case.
In terms of the most exciting I find Pettis to be more entertaining personally but there ain't much in it.

Fedor was an absolute beast.

Fedora greatest...no chance imo he had 2great fights... Nogueira and cro cop. All the others were UFC has been and underskilled Asian fighters.
Fedora vs Randy
Fedor vs Chuck
Fedor vs Silva( axe murderer)
Fedor was a beast, but no different to calzaghe in that he didn't face all the elite in his weight class. He also wasn't all that speciality watch. Silva took elite fighters and embarrassed them. Ppl forget that Rich Franklin was a world class fighter when Silva destroyed him TWICE!! Griffin was bigger and a known warrior yet Silva made a clown of him. Silva imo greatest fighter of all time.

UFC is such a young sport that I don't think that the term "greatest of all time" should be used.
If we're talking MMA in general then the likes of Bruce Lee and many others would surely be in contention even if there was no UFC or anything even similar to it in previous eras.
I heard Rousey describe herself today as the greatest of all time and it made me feel uneasy.
Greatest of what time ? The relatively short amount of time that the UFC has been in existence ?
Nothing against Rousey or Anderson Silva as they are both without doubt great fighters.

MMA has been around for centuries.
----------------------------
That's very debatable.
Fighting in the octagon with current MMA rules certainly hasn't been around for centuries.
In it's current format only a couple of decades as far as I know.

The drug he got caught for is interesting because its not something that a good coach would allow their athelete to get caught using. Its more likely that someone fecked up than the testing was good enough (either Silva messed up his timing, which is unliekly, or someone gave him a drug that wasnt what he was told he was using). No testing is good enough to stop atheletes cheating if they want to and have the resources. The best testing in sport is the Olympic programme and even that is routinely dodged (they tested a load of frozen samples from 2012 for instance recently with new techniques and found a sh't ton of samples tested postive for anabolics)
