Will Rooney start up front v Swansea?

I missed the first 40mins of last nights match because I had taken my son to his football training, so I can't comment on how well or badly we played.

The second half, after Young came on, is as fluid as I've seen us play in some time, in an attacking sense.

It's obvious that Rooney is at his most effective up top, but, do you think the manager will stick with Rooney further forward on Saturday?

Whilst that would be awesome the thought of Pool beating us in the final with Gerrard kissing everything in sight is terrifying.

Totally. I remember considering the prospect of playing either Chelsea or Liverpool in the 2008 CL final. On one hand, Chelsea would be harder to beat and beating Liverpool in the final would have been sweeter. On the other hand - no, even now I don't want to think about the other hand.

It's right in the middle of their 2 games with Monaco, a tie I think they will easily win, I don;t think it'll have too big an effect either way. We both have an away PL game 3 days before, we've got Newcastle, they've got QPR.

Considering his wages, no price is ok tbh. He is only going to get worse.

In fairness the same can be said of Rooney.

People are going on about last night proving the difference made with Herrera in midfield and Rooney up top.

Yet the match thread was still full of people moaning about our performance which didn't improve until Fellaini went up front.

We were still terrible for 60 minutes so I'd like to know where people are getting the idea we were good last night is coming from.

We were decent for 60 mins. Dominated the game.

Shaky at the back due to Smalling and lacked the cutting edge due to Fellaini being on the right wing. Once he moved up top we had more of an attacking impetus with the full backs overlapping.

I couldn't comment on the first half as I have little to nothing to go on (I was recording it, but the missus let slip the score so that kind of ruined it).

Young only came on around the hour mark, but I was happy with what I seen from there on in.

We were poor but I did at least see signs of what Herrera and Rooney bring to the side when played in these positions. I doubt things were gonna change drastically, Herrera is probably rusty from hardly playing and Rooney looked like he was trying to impress and was sloppy at times.

I'm sure if we continue to play these 2 in these roles we will see gradual improvements.

Busby, the words I'd like to highlight from your post are:

'the match thread was full of people moaning'

The match thread isn't the place to go for calm and rational thought. We weren't great last night but the formation did look more coherent. And I've seen plenty of cup ties under Fergie where we struggled just as much against lower league opposition.

Yes I agree.

We were playing Preston though and were close to going 2-0 down with a header. Hopefully we continue with this formation.

I have. But Rooney is possibly 3 times the player falcao is. Add to it he at least has some history with us, it could possibly justified. Possibly.

Falcao being signed now says either pity or more worrisome, we have some arrangement with Mendes.
