Will Rooney start up front v Swansea?

You'd like to think so....

We have gone 4-4-1-1 in the last 30 mins of the last two matches and have looked like a proper team.

Away from home, he shouldn't even be entertaining the idea of having Rooney, RVP and Falcao in the starting line up.

Ji,

Agree with that. He's mentioned many times about wanting the team to perform for 90 minutes, and not just 30 minutes here or there. It was refreshing to see Rooney playing upfront with Herrera in the middle of the park.

See what happens when you play players in roles they're more accustomed to?

Is RVP available next match?

RR,

I think Van Gaal said after last nights game that RvP should be available. He scored two great goals there at the beginning of last season too.

Rooney offered much more mobility up front in the first half that we have seen from RVP and Falcao all season long.

VC,

That was the impression I got from the half-time highlights. Falcao just looks so laboured.

I missed the first 15 minutes, I thought it was a 3pm kickoff.

But in the last half hour Rooney got behind the decence three times. One was just a stretched leg from being a good chance.

The other two he put over decent balls from the left but to no avail.

I really can't recall either RVP or Falcao getting behind a decence in the last month or so.

RVP has a few times. Di Maria played him in, last week

To be fair to RvP, he does look to get in behind defences a fair bit. Think Daley Blind set him up for the first against Leicester? Should have been flagged offside too if I recall, but some you get, some you don't.

As much as I loved Falcao in his Porto/Atletico days... I think we now have to give it up, or at the very least, use him as a sub when already winning.

Trying to play him into form could cost us the CL spots. It's just not worth it.

I forgot RVP was injured, so again it seems as though these injuries are actually making choices easier to make.

It's why I'm still a little concerned that when/if we do have a fully fit squad LVG will still make some odd selections.

Rooney looked far happier up front although he was clearly given license to roam. I though first half he showed energy but was quite sloppy in play but still overall contributed far better than he does when in midfield.

I agree but if we sign him permanently, we cannot justify having a 50m sub the wrong side of 30.

It looks like the second knee injury has been too much to overcome for him unfortunately.

There can be no complaints that he hasn't had plenty of football of late.

Surely we won't sign Falcao now? Even if he got a bit of form between now and May the risk would be far too great.

It was a risk, but ultimately only a season loan risk and sadly it hasn't worked. Thankfully we can say no at the end of the season.

Goals win football matches, and Rooney scores goals. 0 goals and 0 assists in his previous 9 games since being moved further back is a stark statistic for a player of his calibre. Hopefully Van Gaal has seen the light.

Well, i have been adamant from day one that we should not sign Falcao permanently so i hope that opinion is shared by the board come summer.

But you never know...

Rooney is a brilliant forward in a two man striking team in terms of movement. He peeled to the flanks and creates space, made the runs off the edge.

I must admit I was pretty sceptical of the move, partly because of the wage, the fact he was coming from a big injury, the subsequent loss of Welbeck but I was willing to see how it would go because there's no doubt when on form Falcao is an incredible player.

Sadly it hasn't worked. Mendes is gonna have a lot of fun trying to flog him off this summer.

When LVG talks about 'balance' I think of Welbeck. He hasn't been a raging success at Arsenal but if he'd have stayed, we wouldn't have been playing Rooney in midfield to fit in all the star strikers and we wouldn't have put Di Maria up front to make up for lack of pace in attack. I don't think we'd have fewer points than we do right now.

I'm sure Mendes will contrive to make money from Falcao's next move, wherever he goes.

Maybe Ed will keep his mouth shut and his wallet hidden for a change!

I guess it was a catch 22 with Welbeck, he wanted to move because he thought he could be the main man somewhere else and we wanted him as a useful squad player.

Seems that Welbeck is already back to being a squad wide player for Arsenal, if only he had realised his limitations and accepted a squad role with us. He'll probably go on to score the winner in the cup against us too.

At what price would Utd fans be happy for Falcao to sign permanently?

Hernandez will likely go for about £10m in the summer, would Falcao at £15m be value?

I just wouldn't bother, even if we got him for cheap his wage will be astronomical and I can't see him accepting a squad role.

I'd much rather we went for someone younger with pace and still with the hunger to win. No idea who that is mind, I hear there's a pretty good kid at Lyon.

Oh god, I hadn't thought of that.

I really had high hopes for Welbeck.

I'm actually quite confident of beating Arsenal, all I cared about was getting a home draw.

I think it's written in the stars that we will beat Liverpool in the final, Gerrard's last game ever for the club, what a way to go. The PL should also let us parade duplicates of ever title we've won since Gerrard has been a player.
