Obviously nobody connected with the club wants it to be repeated, although it's now a distinct possibility.
Unless Liverpool win today, we'll be out of top 4 and have by far the trickiest set of remaining fixtures. The end is not nigh just yet. We could still do it but we'll have done it the hard way, that's for sure.
What are the pitfalls though for missing out again?
My understanding of the record Addidas deal means it would take another year after next without CL before that deal is impacted. So we'd be okayish
there.
However, the two biggest pitfalls would be;
a) DDG would more than likely leave for CL football and you could hardly blame him if he did.
b) The prize money for just getting to the CL group phase next season is doubled at £60m. That's a heck of a lot of money to miss out on.
I thought yesterday was a really important game for us. We badly needed the 3 points as a bit of safety net. Looking ahead now, I'm not totally convinced we can get enough points on the road to stay in top 4. Don't fancy us to win any of the remaining away games with the exception of possibly Hull and it will be far too late by then anyway.
If we don't do it, does LVG have to go? Only an FA cup win could save him in that eventuality for me.
Also who would be next?
Personally I wouldn't say no to Diego Simeone. Seems to be the best upcoming manager in Europe and I'm 110% positive he'd get best out of our failing stars. Would he drop out of CL with Atletico though to join us if we were in Ropey league? Not sure.
Missing out on top 4 again.

"do you know the history of MUFC ?!
Even if we were mid table ..OT would be full and we would be generating huge revenues"
Interesting theory. I'd sure love to see it put to the test

Its no throes.. we were rubbish in the 70s and 80s and had the best attendances year upon year... 57000 and packed regularly.
Non United fans regularly underestimate the size of the club and its following and loyalty.

Liverpool paid Suarez c. £200k a week, and I don't think any of RVP/Rooney/Falcao are getting £300k a week.
--------
May have added up to £200k a week based on performances.
He was on a performance related wage, in my opinion how it should be.
Falcao getting paid £265k a week essentially mugging everyone involved with Manchester United off.

Agree on performance pay.
The Falcao figure you have just made up.
And these figures are a few years old, but have fun anyway:

The price of going to a game isn't relative to what it was then, although hypothetically only playing once a week would help in that respect.

Nothing is relative to what it was then, but one thing remains constant and that's the level of support. Namely the best supported club on the planet !
People have a lot more disposable income now than they and during Thatcher's years when we were dire !
Anyhow don't you worry your little head about us either, we will be just fine.

Worry my head?! Don't flatter yourself
The dynamic of match goers has shifted though, far older crowd than it was back then, see your point, but you can't just base it on the fact you were packed out 40 years ago.
We may never know, but there is hope, at least.

Most income comes from commercial and sponsorships which United are way ahead of everyone else on but that won't be the case if you spend a few years not competing... there wasn't a billion fans around the world buying shirts and merchandise back in the 70's!

Yes we may never know...but we were packed out ago 40 years ago and ever since really, win, lose or draw.
Teams like Sunderland get 40000 without winning anything. Teams are well supported in England at all levels.
Financially to miss out on CL again would be huge but if any club can cope it's our club, that's basically what I am saying.
I do agree it would be interesting to see once the day trippers were lost but I would bet on OT still being packed for league games.
