Rooney's best four Premier League seasons by goal tally:
11/12: 27 goals, team finished 2nd
09/10: 26 goals, team finished 2nd
13/14: 17 goals, team finished 7th
05/06: 16 goals, team finished 2nd
From 05/06 to (and including) 12/13, United won the title every other season.
What do you make of that, pure coincidence? or can this be explained?
Odd Rooney Statistic

To be fair we would have won in 10 and 12 but for the tiniest of margins. Nothing to do with Rooney who did his job well.

One of Fletcher best seasons was in 09-10 season and that was the season he appeared in the most premierleague games whilst he was at Man utd.

Berbatov was a small part in 10/11 season, I think after January he barely even played a game. Hernandez was key to 10/11 title. Berbatov goals came in a few games.

Valencia miss against Blackburn was the blow that cost us the 09-10 season title.

This still irks me. Brilliant ball by Berbatov, all Valencia had to do was guide it in

To an extent I agree, it was more of a shared role with Hernandez finishing the job, but Berbatov certainly played his part even if his 21 league goals were rather clustered.

DP I still remember SAF reaction of him moving his hands up and down being so frustrated in 1st half. That was our best chance that match. We huffed and puffed thereafter but we didn't blow the house down. It was even more annoyong we managed to beat Arsenal Tottenham Man city home and away that season but dropped silly points to Sunderland Burnley Aston Villa.

Had we won those titles, the premier league would've become like the French League back in the early 2000s. It was good that we lost it, made the titles we won season after even sweeter.

No it was not good we lost it. Stopped us winning 7 league titles in a row and we led the 09/10 and 11/12 season with like 4 or 5 games to go.
I rather it be the french league as it means more fun for us utd fans. Its also the way we lost those titles that hurt even more, having in your grasp and letting it go.

RVP was not a United player in any of those seasons and his (neglible) presence didn't lead to our manger playing Rooney in midfield.
But there's a new philosophy coming our way

Hmm... 09/10 was one of the worst seasons Rooney and the team has ever had stylistically. He could not control a ball, or beat his man. See a collection of the goals and it was tap ins and headers, great finishes but not great football. I remember once he scored hattrick or even more, did not win the MOTM, it was hilarious. That was the season own goal was the 2nd or 3rd highest goalscorer for the season. Was the beginning of the "painful football era" we have been stuck with for the last 6 years.
Fact: Rooney has not been the undisputed best player for a championship winning team at least recently.
