Maybe the board have someone in mind and are waiting until they're free of contract and compensation implications. Just a thought.

I'm not convinced we need to appoint a manager for the long term - something that Murray seemed to suggest
In the very short term we need someone to get us through the play-offs and I don't think McDowell has it in him. After that, in our first season in the SPL, King seems to want us up there challenging for top spot but seems to have accepted a second place would be reasonable. With our resources and budget and facilities you'd think a half-decent manager would manage that. We'd not need a Guardiola for that task surely! If King wants to seriously have a go at Celtic in years 2-3 then that is possibly a different story
However, back to Murray's point about long-term thinking and the fact that our club has had so few managers over the decades, I think that thinking is maybe a bit dated now. I reckon most really good managers (apart from Fergie) run out of fresh ideas, motivation, enthusiasm after about 3-4 years anyway, and many want a fresh challenge. So, I'd be happy to appoint immediately on a 3 year deal and see how we are placed in the Christmas of that year

I agree, i think keeping McDowell there is pointless and working against motivating the players to improve.
The team needs someone to come in and identify the ones that can have their performances turned around and drop the ones that are no hope.
I think with the right manager, you could take 2/3 of that team, and add a few youngsters and you would see a marked improvement (with a more passing game that is, so a change of tactics and proper coaching required).
These players have got ability, they are just not motivated or got the right motivated players around them and not got the motivated manager or correct pre match instructions to get the best out of them at the moment.
