Professor this would be an excellent appointment, my only fear is big davie's ability, warburtons track record for building from youth is excellent but he did choose weir as his assistant

Warburton hasn't taken the tried and tested route but completely different route into senior football coaching

I believe we need to go up this season. Fack this " another season to build bollox" if a coach is any good he'll consolidate in the SPL. Problem is, McDowell won't get us up. He's completely devoid of tactics and inspiration . We need someone in now, even on. 3 month deal, someone who can kick ass and get us over the line.

Laudrup

I thought the Warburton-Weir combo sounded promising, especially how Warburton's done it and the fact that he'd be fresh to us with no old pals.....maybe, shock, horror, including players in the squad on merit only! (bit of a novelty).....might be a bit of a boot up the a**e for our under-performers. Short track record though could mean a successful approach at one club which does not automatically translate to success at another?

One comment I picked up from Murray seemed to be a possible preference for a coach working under a director of football?....the reason for Warburton wanting to leave Brentford we're told. Are we being prepared for the young Scottish asst. manager at Valencia to work under Felix Magath?! Christ, I hope not

King said on Friday that he didn't like the idea of a coach/ manager being answerable to a Director of Football so maybe not. We need somebody NOW not in June !!!

Warburton would be coach and weir his assistant, there has been all sorts of speculation around the end of feb, he was ready to walk, they apparently told him even if you get us promoted you will not be in the job

i got the opposite from king and murrays comments.

They dont want qa manager they want a coach and a director of football will deal with management aspects.

They seemed pretty clear on that.

King said on Thursday night being interviewed at the airport he can't see how a director of football would work at Rangers and he doesn't see them going down that route, they have also mentioned bringing in a coach rather than a manager

I'm not convinced we need to appoint a manager for the long term - something that Murray seemed to suggest

In the very short term we need someone to get us through the play-offs and I don't think McDowell has it in him. After that, in our first season in the SPL, King seems to want us up there challenging for top spot but seems to have accepted a second place would be reasonable. With our resources and budget and facilities you'd think a half-decent manager would manage that. We'd not need a Guardiola for that task surely! If King wants to seriously have a go at Celtic in years 2-3 then that is possibly a different story

However, back to Murray's point about long-term thinking and the fact that our club has had so few managers over the decades, I think that thinking is maybe a bit dated now. I reckon most really good managers (apart from Fergie) run out of fresh ideas, motivation, enthusiasm after about 3-4 years anyway, and many want a fresh challenge. So, I'd be happy to appoint immediately on a 3 year deal and see how we are placed in the Christmas of that year

I agree, i think keeping McDowell there is pointless and working against motivating the players to improve.

The team needs someone to come in and identify the ones that can have their performances turned around and drop the ones that are no hope.

I think with the right manager, you could take 2/3 of that team, and add a few youngsters and you would see a marked improvement (with a more passing game that is, so a change of tactics and proper coaching required).

These players have got ability, they are just not motivated or got the right motivated players around them and not got the motivated manager or correct pre match instructions to get the best out of them at the moment.
