The Bale Money - Massive Opportunity Missed

Whilst we all reflect on the current state of our squad and the deadwood that exists within it and we wonder if Levy will free the purse strings to allow Poch to sign some quality in the summer, it's worth remembering that we had a massive opportunity to build a very competitive squad with the proceeds from Bale's sale but failed miserably.

From what I recall that summer, we signed the likes of Soldado, Paulinho,Lamela, Capoue, Chadli, and Chiriches. Without exception, I think each one of these players has been a massive flop (and I include Chadli in that assessment). I personally don't think Levy can be blamed for these signings. The blame must lie with Baldini and possibly AVB (though I don't think AVB wanted these players) and now we're faced with the prospect of having to keep some of these players because either the player not wanting to leave and lose out on a lucrative salary or the club not wanting to face a massive loss on resale value.

The wasted opportunity from the Bale sale is, in my view, at the root of our current predicament. Poch was signed to get the best out of an under performing squad, but even he cannot squeeze water from a stone.

Now we're left with having to promote youth players or buy mid-range valued players due to the financial commitment of the new stadium and this rebuilding process will take time.

The wastefulness of the windfall received in 2013 was incredible and it will continue to affect us for seasons to come. I'm actually surprised that Baldini has survived this.

Your thoughts please?

Furthermore we didn't waste 100mill - unless you are saying that the value of those signings is now 0 ?

Chadli and certainly Eriksen will have increased in value.

Actually they will probably have both doubled

Chadli to 15 mill ish. And Eriksen to 22 mill ish
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm sorry mate, but no one's going to pay £15m for Chadli right now.

I'm a big fan of Eriksen, I think he's a classy player. But he's too inconsistent and again I think your current valuation is over the top.

so you think that we would sell eriksen for less than 22mill?

and hes still only about 22

madness.

No, I'm not saying that we would sell for less than £22m. I'm saying that no one would pay £22m for him currently. Two different things!

Levy can't remain blameless. I don't know how much say he had in the signings but he appointed Baldini. He should be judged on the success of his appointments and dismissals and Baldini's appointment has been a failure so far.

Spurs at the moment really isn't a good club for a manager. There are high expectations of what they need to achieve in a short space of time, the fans are impatient, and they are not backed financially. Being Spurs manager is one of the more tougher roles in the league.

totally disagree.

your view doesn't stack up if you consider:

1. the price of similar type of players in the market already
2. the fact that with the new tv money, prices this summer will be hugely inflated.

Everybody was happy when the new signings come in. Always easy after the event.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

No I wasn't. I said at the time that it was too many players at once. At the time I was happy with Paulinho and wanted us to add Eriksen, Soldado and a winger.
