Au Revoir Knockaert

French newspapers are today reporting that the deal for him to go to Standard Liege is a done deal.

So, I Thought I'd set up a thread to reminisce on some of the great Knockaert moments - not many players will have made such an impression in just 2 seasons (this season can't really count)? We've also not had that many flair players over the years so i simply found him a joy to watch.

The Scorpion goal is the best goal I've seen live!

I don't think anyone is qualified to be writing him off at this level. Pearson clearly felt he had a future judging by the fair contract offer, if he didn't think he could ever make it he wouldn't have made such an offer.

I can see where Dung is coming from but i really felt he deserved more of a crack at it, especially during our baren spell. NP gave Vardy 20 games between goals and we're being rewarded for that now. It's a real shame but that's footy I suppose.

I'm with BS here. I just don't think we've seen enough of Knockaert to know if he could have adapted to the Prem or not.

I'm pretty trusting of Pearson and his team so if Knocky had shown enough in training to claim the Vardy or Mahrez role he'd be in. The fact he's not to me says something was missing.

But as BS suggests, we could have made the same assumptions of Albrighton whilst he wasn't in the team but he's now stepping up.

We all wish Knocky the best. There's no denying he's provided some great memories and was passionate about playing for our club, and for this reason I hope he finds a club that gets the best out of him.

I among i am sure a number thought that Antony did not have enough to make the step up and would be an impact sub at best. But given the upheaval in his personal life this season he goes as a hero rather than a failed premiership player.

IMHO If we stay up the current squad will have done a great job. However, surely we need to strengthen with better players than even some of those who made the team let alone those who didn't.
Notwithstanding that Tony was a joy to watch in the Championship. Sorry to see him go but onwards and upwards.....

Thanks for the new nickname Nev I may use that as the reason I chose Fosse was not only for the obvious but a Fosse Septique in France is a septic tank i.e Full of S...

To be honest I don’t buy the argument that Knocky can’t succeed because he isn’t quick enough or not physical enough. It’s a sad indictment of British football if that attitude still pervades despite what Alan Young might state. The physical bit is rectified by some extra time in the gym. The pace bit is harder to fix as no matter what he does he’ll never have that raw ability to outrun people that Schlupp and Vardy have in abundance. So he would have to adapt his style and the type of player he’ll ultimately become. Over the years I’ve seen some pretty slow and not particularly athletic players dominate games from a more central starting position.

Knocky may find that wing play is not suited to his physicality and that a position as an attacking midfielder or a withdrawn forward, is the way to go. He certainly has some genuine natural quality, but would have to work on his game management, vision and passing ability. I think it’s these areas that he needs to work on (he’ll never be the quickest) as, currently, you couldn’t see him affecting games consistently in the middle of the pitch.

Pearson has frozen plenty of players out during his time at Leicester and generally his judgement has been spot on, but this feels different. It’s not NP’s style to talk openly about a new contract, especially if the player isn’t someone he ultimately wants to work with. I’m inclined to agree with Blackstarr that he isn’t playing because our current position doesn’t allow bringing through a player with potential when our style is more suited to players who’ll run through brick walls. If we were established in mid table it might be different.

Knocky has enough natural ability to make you think that he might succeed if he works on his game – it’s perhaps 50/50 at the moment – but that’s not what we need right now. Sad to see him go, but sometimes it’s just a case of right player/wrong time and Knocky needs too much investment just now.

He hasn't had much of a chance this season but hasn't looked a prem player for me. Wish him the very best - been really entertaining.
