Normal order has been restored in the City of Discovery as the Terrors put the wee team across the road back in their box.
What a way to end the season. Ok, we didn't get into Europe and quite frankly our form since February 1st didn't warrant it, but we can go into the summer in a positive mood after a convincing derby win.
In fairness the Dees were in generous mood, gifting United a 2 goal lead. First a throughball put Ciftci in on goal and Letheren in the goal seemed to think it was a good idea to jump over the ball, allowing Ciftci to slot home into an open goal. Then Konrad thought it was a good idea to bump over Ciftci in the box giving United a penalty, and the Turk picked himself up and sent Letheren the wrong way.
Both teams had further chances in the half and, to be honest, the Dees were probably passing the ball better going into the break. The Terrors however put the game to bed early in the second half with a typical derby goal - a thundering challenge by Spittal, picked up by the defence, into Rankin and then a through ball for the galloping Spittal who slotted left footed beyond Letheren. Lovely stuff.
The game then seemed to peeter out and for a large chunk of the half it was the crowd amusing themselves with some cheap laughs at the Dees. "Dundee FC, you'll always be shÃte", "Paul McGowan, it's time to go home" and once Harkins got on, he was the target for the jokes, with songs like "Gary Harkins, he eats what he wants" and "your bellies offside".
The game then came to life again towards the end after that man Nadir Ciftci riled the wee team with some showboating. A bewildering step-over-a-thon then led to a rabona cross that was nearly turned in by McGowan. The Dees didn't like it, and started putting the boot in. Of course, we weren't afraid to, ahem, get our teeth stuck in to this side either.
Credit to Jackie, he got the tactics and the shape spot on yesterday and that was key to us winning the game. There were also some very good performances, including from Sean Dillon who was man of the match for me. When he plays like that you can see why he's been given the contract, but he needs to be consistent. Spittal and Erskine played well, as did Muirhead, while everyone across the back four played well.
Rado made a few good stops too and it was a nice touch by Jackie to take him off with a couple of minutes to go to give him his moment in his last game. He looked a wee bit emotional at the end and I wish him all the best.
So let's hope next season is an improvement and we don't have our regular second half of the season collapse.
Mon the Terrors.

Ivan,
I always read your after match reviews and generally agree with your comments.
But have to disagree about yesterday, apart from putting them back in their place.
To be negative after a derby horsing is probably a tad churlish but I'm saying it as I saw it.
The only tactics I saw yesterday was hoping for defensive mistakes and Dundee duly obliged.
Spittal, for me, looked out of his depth at times, although credit for his part in the third goal.
To be fair to him he hasn't had a chance to stake a claim for any definite position.
Maybe Jackie is hoping that he'll emerge as the new Robertson.
Erskine looks like he's so nearly a good player. So close to doing the right thing but just a wee bit too slow.
Again though, moved around a lot.
Didn't think Muirhead did much yesterday but he's one for the future and deserves time to develop
It looks like Jackie will be here for next season so lets hope he's learned from the back end of this season and tries to find a settled team.
Not surprisingly the BNB's are frothing at the mouth about Ciftci's innocuous little nibble at McAllister but have completely ignored Stewart's stamp on Soutar.

I thought Spittal did well. He just lacks pace, which admittedly you need in a wide player. The defensive aspect of his game was good.
Muurhead I like simply because he's a frontman. He leads the line and put himself about yesterday. That frees up Ciftci to play his game, although he was very wasteful in possession.
It wasn't a great performance but it was disciplined and an improvement. We do need to improve our passing because it's not been good enough all season.
