Lewis Hamilton!!

How valuable is he to the:
1) British Economy
2) Formula 1

If we consider that the German GP was cancelled earlier due to declining attendances, is it safe to assume that Lewis is partly responsible for the Silverstone sell out?
If yes, the impact on jobs, businesses etc which depend on that race will be very happy to have Lewis as a British racing driver today.

What about those who don't like Lewis, Lewis can be credited for keeping these people interested in Formula 1 just because they want to see him loose.

His story has now made Karting appealing to all different ethnic groups across the country compared to earlier decades. The carting industry would also be very pleased with his success.

The fans? Well, Lewis brought me into F1. And I assume this is the case for millions across the world today. Just like other top stars have done in different sports in times past.

Now you can see why Bernie said that Lewis is the dream world champion.

Finally, my ticket for Spar is booked. Look out for me in the telly during Ted's notebook time after qualy - provided Lewis gets pole. Otherwise, I might just go to the hotel and cry myself to sleep that night.

Arise Sir Hamilton

You have shown us you do not need the EBD or its variants to be a world champion

There is a story that tells that for 2013 McLaren offered Hamilton the same money he got in 2012 but with a reduction to cover the cost of his engines(!) which McLaren now had to pay for and would be £10M for both drivers. Hamilton was on £13M a year so McLaren offered him £8M, initially. Hamilton was outraged but didn't let on and said he would think about it. Mercedes had offered him the money he was getting at McLaren and he went to them and agreed to drive for them the following year without letting McLaren know he had other offers. (for 2013).

The first McLaren knew that they had lost him was when Eddie Jordan announced it during BBC coverage of the Italian Grand Prix.

It would be easy to assume that Mercedes knew that McLaren would make Hamilton a reduced offer because it may have been mentioned by McLaren during their negotiating the price of engines and played a blinder, but that would only be supposition.

I am pretty sure that I remember Martin Whitmarsh not even being aware that Hamilton had been signed by Mercedes and thinking McLaren and Hamilton were still in negotiations even when everybody else knew they were not.

Whether or not the story above is true I do not know but either way, thank God he left McLaren. What a waste of talent, for their present drivers too.
Sadly McLaren have become the "Squanderer of Seasons".
