Havent posted on here in years but though I'd pick it back up as Ive seen some nonsense written about Benteke
Just to say to Liverpool fans who are concerned about having to cross the ball to Benteke to get the best out of him, its not the best way.
He is at his best when players get up and around him and this is key. As you would expect he is good at holding up the ball and bringing others into play, but in the final third if you can get runners in the box, or around him he is excellent at either picking a pass or engineering a yard of space to shoot.
He is also excellent picking the ball up in the inside-left position and running at defenders. seem to remember he set up a goal for Wineman against Man Utd where he left Smalling literally on his arris.
The problem for us was when he became isolated, Gabby injured and the midfield not getting up with him. We played so deep and hit high, square balls into him (not quickly enough) and consequently he was played offside a lot. Which is the most effective defence against him as he is excellent at winning the ball from goal kicks. I used to love how he would bring the ball under control on his knee from a goal kick with defenders all over him.
Don't worry about a carol mark 2, drift to the back stick and hope he headers it down He's more the chest it down and scissor kick it type.
And his injury record is fine. He snapped his achilies in training last preseason, and I seem to remember he missed a few games with a hip injury in his first season but other than that he's not been out.
The best performance he had for us was against Sunderland season before last when we won and scored six. If you can get highlights of this it would give a good insight into what he is like on form.
The other thing to mention about him is he has a red card in him and can sulk about being transferred. He went on strike at Genk and transfer requested us when he thought Spurs were interested.
Wish him all the best I genuinely believe he's the best striker we've had since Yorke and for me he is better than Sturridge (who I rate) as hes better in the air, genuinely two footed, has a good direct freekick and crucially he has excellent speed of thought.
And the fee is nothing you lot have essentially swapped Sterling who is (currently) a bit meh and swapped him or Milner, Fermino, Clyne and Benteke. Milners got 10 - 12 goals in him (from his days with us at centre mid) and Benteke has got 15-25.
Good luck for the season and UTV
Getting the Best out of Benteke

I'd agree that although Benteke can be used as a target it's not the best way to use him. In his first season with us he used to drift wide quite a lot and that made it difficult to keep track of him; give him space he's quite good at picking out a pass for others; Weimann scored a couple of beauties against MU after being set up by Benteke.
Biggest weaknesses; sometimes too static, can stand still demanding the ball when he should be moving into space; hopeless in defence eg when marking somebody at a corner, which can give opposition strikers a free run; sometimes sulks if the opposition defence manage to keep him quiet (can lead to red card situations).

had enough of this with Mario!

Don't think he'd be called to defend much, rather he be halfway up the pitch waiting for the ball to control and play Firminho or Ibe in

Black Andy Carroll. Seriously not the sort of player to fit into Rogers philosophy bòllox and seriously overpriced. Looks like more Rogers transfer genious.

Wonderful player, as good as any forward I have seen play for Villa.
Not sure Liverpool the best move for him, but I think he should do well.
I am surprised Chelsea didn't come in for him because he is very similar to Drogba.

Sorry to rub it in, but looking at the L'pool threads, they can't even be bothered opening one about Benteke.
Shows you how much he was valued at yours and how much he is valued at theirs.
I can't see him making much of an impact, maybe you'll get him back at a knock-down price come January.
Good luck with the coming season 'coz even Blues fans were begining to wince for ya and that same feeling is coming again before the season has even started!...
