i know i'm in a minority in this opinion but i think we should sell De Gea. All this talk of united "standing firm" and not being ridden over by Real Madrid is merely posturing in my opinion.
I know lots of fans like De Gea and hes a cracking keeper but in my opinion hes letting himself down with all this nonsense at the moment and hes actually let the club down by not signing a contract with United. Ronaldo signed a contract with us knowing full well he was off but it would get the club, who brought him on, a decent fee. Even Suarez did that at liverpool knowing full well he wouldnt stay there for that long.
I would have admired De Gea more if he signed a contract and added a clause which is a realistic fee for him. Then if Real wanted him badly enough they would simply pay it and they'd be handshakes all round and he would have got his wish.
United might feel like taking the higher ground now but if hes not playing its not working in our favour and he'll obviously walk for nothing this time next year. We should have sold him early summer and got a replacement. i would have gone for Oblak
Whilst im in a minority with this opinion i do think lvG would rather move on with someone new.

I say with de gea 99% chance and with Romero 99% chance of making top 4.

I rate our other players, but I don't have any confidence in Romero. We need a decent replacement for De Gea if he goes. If we do that then I'd still be confident of a top 4 finish, but I just can't see who we would get at this late stage. Navas as part of any deal would be ok.

This whole thread has missed the main point. DDG wants to go to Madrid because that's where his girlfriend & family are. Playing for RM is secondary to that. If they were in Paris, he would probably go and play for PSG.
Maybe his head isn't right because he's homesick. Maybe he wants to get laid more often. Maybe he misses his mother's Paella.
Maybe, just maybe his actions and thoughts have nothing to do with football.

Desperate to leave,not a van der saar or schmeichel by a long way. Why would you keep him? Take 20m now leaves you level on transfer dealings and move on,faffing about with someone who wants to leave is pointless. A stand was made by not selling him at the first offer but now i'd rather he never played again.
The op is spot on,he could have signed a contract with release clause if he cared enough.
