I noticed that the media and fans have been bit overly critical about United inspite the fact that we won our two opening games. Most of the criticism is aimed at rooney while some were blaming LVG for his team selection and tactics.
While rooney has been pants and LVG did made some odd decisions, the reasons for our disjointed, poor performances are more deep rooted.
This was our starting line up for the second game last season
De Gea; Jones, Smalling, Blackett; Valencia, Cleverley, Fletcher, Mata, Young; Rooney, van Persie.
This is the starting line up for the last match.
Romero; Darmian, Smalling, Blind, Shaw; Carrick, Schneiderlin; Mata, Memphis, Januzaj; Rooney
As you can see, We have gone through huge changes within a year. changes arnt just restricted to personal, tactics and formations all changed over a course of one season.
Its near impossible for a team to go though such transformation over a such a short time and initiate their game plan perfectly from the off. Players lacking match fitness and sharpness makes it even more difficult.
While our football has been dull and turgid at times, it's unrealistic to expect them play free flowing footy from the get go.
It took LVG nearly half a season to figure out his best team, and took even longer to get United to play any decent footy.I don't expect LVG take that long to get united to play some decent footy this season but I fully expect few dull matches while players returning to their full fitness, and getting used to their new system and teammates.
Thoughts?
Too soon to be critical

You won't play fast flowing football under van Gaal. He'll build you back into a team that will challenge again over the next two seasons, which is surely all that matters to United fans.

Most United fans expect/demand attacking football.
His
Lvg is not a defensive manager like Jose. His Bayern team and barca team played free flowing football. He is fully capable of getting his teams to play entertaining football if he has the right personal

* his target is to win while playing good football

Its a results business and lvg is delivering, performances always get better after 5-10 games. A good start is essential when trying to achieve your goals as there's nothing harder than playing catch up.

We look probably the best defensively of all the title contenders. Arsenal have virtually no defence, likewise Chelsea.
