Who Was the Last Player Signed

That really got you excited due to their pedigree/class/reputation?

In recent years we have signed a number of players that I had not heard of before (or seen play), so it got me thinking....

The last signing that I can remember that genuinely excited me was Edgar Davids.

I've probably forgotten another key signing after that, so please let me know yours!

ps
Van der Vaart, might just come into this category, but I wasn't as stunned as I was by the Davids signing.

Capoue? You were excited about Capoue?!

As soon as I learned his name was pronounced Capoo I knew he wouldn't make it.

I supposed I'm not too surprised that no one has admitted being excited about Paulinho.

After all his successes shortly before he signed I have to say that for me he was a huge signing. Obviously not so much in reality...

When you think back, signing the Magnificent 7 / Beatles was an exciting time. Particularly Magic Friday or whatever it was when we signed 4 big name players.

I remember lambasting the pundits who said 'not all of them will work out' ... If we only knew then what we know now.

Modric - i was a huge fan of the player for Croatia and Dinamo Zagreb. He made the game look easy. He has the best decision making of any CM in the world for me, and he backs that up with the ability to execute, no matter what situation. The only doubt i had about him was his diminutive stature, but he has continued to surprise me for best part of a decade now. World clas

VDV - not quite good enough for Real Madrid but perfect for Spurs. He instantly made us a much better team, great player but a bit like Kranjcar (another who excited me), struggled with the speed and stamina of the game. Technically they were both top draw

Most of the other signings we have made to me were relatively unknown quantities, though i hoped Soldado would come good, but we never really gave him a chance through our style of play completely negating his natural game.

As well as Sissoko and M'Vila, Capoue had been touted for the previous 2/3 years as a player who'll soon be snapped up by a bigger, more high-profile club. Often touted as being as players to watch out for, and I thought he'd be a real upgrade on Parker and Hudd.
